Pregnant?

Hi everyone,

I had a pill-free week that was about 1.5 to 2 weeks long, so 8 days. I also forgot to take my pills and had unprotected sex during those 7 days before. I also had sex on the 6th day after the extended pill-free week. I wouldn't mind getting pregnant if it happened. It wasn't really planned, but if it happens, it would definitely be welcome. We've been together for many years, and I'm almost 26, which I think is a good age. I thought it would be fine and figured something like this wouldn't happen to me after just forgetting my pill for a while, especially since other women take longer to conceive. But now... I've been feeling different for over a week. I have my pill-free week in 11 days, but I've already been feeling sharp pains (left and right) for over a week, kind of like period cramps. I never had symptoms before or even during my pill-free week. I always had some issues with my bowels, but this is 10 times worse now. Yesterday, I suddenly had dark urine (almost orange-yellow), and I've been burping a lot more than usual for a few days, which my boyfriend also noticed. I've also noticed that I can smell more, my urine smells stronger than usual, and I have slight tingling in my breasts. I also suddenly have small bumps/blisters on my left nipple. Of course, I've been thinking a lot about what could happen after forgetting my pill. This can't be happening, right? Maybe I'm just feeling all these pregnancy symptoms because I'm so focused on it, but that seems unlikely. Otherwise, my body is playing tricks on me, right? I took a test yesterday (negative) because I felt a bit nauseous yesterday morning, so I thought maybe I should test again. Or is it still too early? I also don't know exactly how it works if you're still taking the pill. I also feel like I might be getting sick (like the flu), even though I haven't had the flu in years. Is there a chance? Is an extended pill-free week that dangerous? Are there more people who got pregnant by starting the pill just one day late? I can't believe it after taking the pill regularly for almost 13 years and never forgetting. Do I really have to wait until my next pill-free week to test? Does it work the same if you're still on the pill? I'd love to hear your experiences and wonder if you also had these symptoms at the beginning of your pregnancy.

Hi Sanne, you asked so many questions that I didn't really know the answers to myself but I did experience something similar. In February 2017, while I was normally taking my pill, I started feeling 'weird' from day to day just like you described. I had those stabbing pains in my stomach that I couldn't get an answer for. I also took a test, but it was negative (looking back, that makes sense due to low hCG). It went on like that, and I really had the feeling: I'm pregnant. But my logic and the test I took said otherwise. Because a negative test and how could I get pregnant if I'm on the pill? Normally I occasionally forgot one pill, but nothing happened. In February, I took my pill strictly every day and waited during the break week for my 'period'. It came on the day I normally expected it. But before it continued, I went to the toilet and sorry for the detail, but in the toilet bowl I saw something very tiny that looked like a very small shrimp. (Looking back, that was my baby). After I lost that, I lost blood with huge cramps and clots. But I still wasn't sure I was pregnant. That came after I still had symptoms of blood/black mucus/cramps after 4 days. I went to the doctor, and they confirmed via a blood test that I was indeed pregnant and had had an early miscarriage. I'd say: always follow your gut feeling! If you're not sure? Go to your GP. Because what a urine test can't see is seen in a blood test. That's always 100% reliable.

Thanks for your reply Oh, what a story, that's really tough for you.. I really don't know what to think either. I just have a strong feeling that something is going on and I really feel different. I do hear a lot that if you keep thinking about it you might be 'psychosomatically pregnant', but these symptoms don't just come out of nowhere.. I feel it even when I'm not thinking about it. I'm going to test again anyway, but I think it's a bit too early. If I test negative after my period and still keep having these symptoms, I'll definitely go to the doctor, but I'm also really curious to hear other people's stories.

Hey Sanne, that's gladly done. It's indeed true that you can imagine your symptoms. But what if you are actually pregnant? If I were to experience something like this again, I would go straight to the GP for peace of mind because if I were pregnant, it's important (although not really proven, but still advised against) to know and stop the pill immediately. And if I'm not pregnant, well, better one extra GP visit than taking my pill while waiting and actually being pregnant. Anyway, lots of luck, girl!!

Yeah, some people say it’s impossible and that it’s because of the pill, since I should already have a positive test with so many symptoms. There are people who are 2 weeks late and only then test positive. I’ll wait a bit longer, do another test at the end of the week, and if these symptoms persist, I’ll see the doctor. Indeed, you’re right, thank you

Had last of menstruatiepijn en steekjes gisteravond en de hele dag vandaag. Vanmiddag (sorry) afscheiding met bruine sliertjes. Herken jij dit? Ik word nu nog meer ongerust..
