Am I pregnant?

Mia
Hi,
I've been off the pill for half a year now. I'm 28, my partner is 30. We've been together for over ten years.
My cycle is very irregular—I used to get my period every two months.
I thought with those long cycles it was safe, so we had unprotected sex on Friday.
But now I feel like I'm ovulating today (Sunday).
We've already talked about how we both want kids.
We also decided to skip the condom and take responsibility for the consequences.
But we both thought the chance was very slim because of the long cycles.
I've been feeling nauseous for two days now, with occasional moments of it.
Could I be pregnant?
I'm quite worried now about whether I made the right choice, or if this is the right time?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Not meant in a bad way, but if you felt your ovulation today and were already feeling nauseous yesterday, you’d realize yourself that you can’t be pregnant yet, right? That would be a bit of a upside-down world.

That doesn’t mean your egg can’t still be fertilized. Sperm can sometimes survive for up to a week!

From your story, I understand that you ovulated today (Sunday)? But then you can't have pregnancy symptoms yet, and officially you're only pregnant once implantation has occurred. Let's say this egg gets fertilized...which is possible...then you'll only have implantation in about 5, 6, or 7 days. Sometimes a bit later. I don't know what's causing your nausea. You'll have to wait a bit longer before you can test.

    Both have a logical explanation.
I could have figured it out myself, but I'm a bit panicky
Nausea must be from something else then.
    We'll wait and see...

It's also a big step, and it's natural for doubts to come with it. That's totally normal, okay.

It’s reassuring to know that doubts are normal.
I’ve been wanting it for a while now. But when do you know if you really want it, and when is the right time?
    Hard, right, but exciting

Of course that's exciting! I totally understand your doubts. Whether pregnant or not, it'll all work out!

Just to follow up on the story...
I've been feeling nauseous all week and had some stomach upset.
In the mornings, I had no appetite. The only thing I crave is toasted bread.
For the past few days, I've had clear mucus discharge, exactly like egg white.
Yesterday, there was a very small reddish-brown clump in it.
Does anyone know what this could mean?
I took a test over the weekend, and it was negative. How quickly can a doctor detect pregnancy in your blood?
Thanks for your tips and advice

so you're not pregnant, nausea can also happen with stomach flu, and loss of appetite is part of that too

If your test is still negative, you don't need to see the doctor yet. A test is very sensitive, and it's only when it becomes positive and rises that you're pregnant. Are you already 14 days past ovulation? I wouldn't focus too much on any symptoms. The real nausea usually starts around the sixth week for most people. But you could still be pregnant, of course. Usually, a test becomes positive from 4 days before your expected period. So 10 days after ovulation. But often later. And sometimes a bit earlier. With me, the test was very faintly positive 9 days after ovulation. It depends on implantation.
