risk of pregnancy 9 days unprotected

sonjaGuest ·
Stupid question maybe, but we have triplets who are 5 years old, and we don't see more children in the picture. I had unsafe, unprotected sex on the 9th day after my period. Now I assume I'm not at risk, but I'd like confirmation from you all just to be sure. What do you think, am I at risk on that day, or is it not that fertile?

and I feel really bad on the pill, so that's why I don't take it.
Besides, I don't tolerate hormones well, so I always use a condom, but my husband doesn't really like using them.
He does it properly every time, but recently he didn't use one. We had it in the back of our minds that day 9 isn't such a high-risk day, but now I'd like to know if that thought is correct?

Hi Sonja, that really depends on the woman and might even vary from cycle to cycle. I don't think anyone can give you a definite answer.
With my first pregnancy, my egg came out much later than average. With my current pregnancy, it was earlier. It was probably around 10 days.
If you want to be sure it's not the case, I think your only option now is the morning-after pill, otherwise just wait for your period.

Hi Sjeel, thanks for your clear explanation
Yeah, I hadn't thought about that before, and what you're saying makes sense—it also depends on the length of my cycle.
So I'll check if I can get the morning-after pill or something like that, or just wait until my next period.
I'm leaning toward the second option; I don't think it would be that urgent, since it was just once on day 9.
But anyway, I just wanted to ask if my feeling of reassurance about day 9 is justified.
    Thanks anyway!

We're so happy that our triplets are now 5 years old and things have calmed down a bit, which is why we don't want any more kids.

Hi Sonja, I can totally understand that. The most important thing is to trust your own feelings/choice.
I’ve been lucky in both pregnancies to get pregnant right away. Neither was consciously planned, but both were very much desired. So that one time might be enough—I know all about it—but the chance seems higher that it won’t be.

Hi Sonja, the chance of getting pregnant from “just once” isn’t much smaller than if you do it more often. It only takes one sperm and one egg (and a bit of luck). But the sperm were there (even if he didn’t cum inside you), and you never know for sure if the egg is there. During your period you’d had almost no risk, but on day 9? Sperm can survive in your body for up to five days, you know!

Why not get sterilized? You don’t want any more kids, you don’t like the pill, and your husband doesn’t like condoms.

Thanks, Sjeel. Indeed, my feelings and choice here are the most important.
Hi Merel, exactly because of the part you mentioned that there’s always a chance, it gave me a little bit of nerves.
And yes, my husband doesn’t want that either, but he also doesn’t want sterilization.
And I don’t either. The idea of having that done to myself gives me a strange, unpleasant feeling.
    Weird people, we are, huh?
But for now, we’re using condoms.

My husband would hate that again! IUD?
