I'm pregnant too. And I asked the hairdresser if I could dye my hair. She said yes, it's fine. It doesn't really matter. But I'm not sure. And still scared.

    Hi sandos,

You can dye your hair these days, no worries.
It's all much milder than it used to be. You could also try a color rinse instead of permanent dye; that's even gentler.

It's better to ask your midwife than to search the internet or ask a hairdresser about it. And it's also true: follow your gut feeling and do what feels right for you.

I'd just let someone else do it instead of doing it yourself. Then you smell the odor less too... at least that's what I always think.

I had it done too, but after the first 10 weeks (when the brain is being formed).

My midwife said it's totally fine. The quality of hair dye has also changed a lot over the years. I'm blonde but always use oil-based dye, no aggressive bleach. It's more about how your hair reacts differently to dye. For example, the color might not take well or differently, and there's a chance your hair could break, but that will just be a one-time thing. Your baby won't suffer any harm from those few dye jobs during those 9 months, okay!

Nowadays, nothing is allowed or possible anymore. I really believe that some things are harmful to the baby, but back in the day, you could do anything, and people who didn't know they were pregnant also did everything.

Everyone has to figure it out for themselves, but I also just had my hair dyed.

Hi, I'm 7 months pregnant and I've dyed my hair. Can that be harmful? I called the doctor, and she said it's not harmful. There are chemicals in it, but they said it's fine. They don't recommend doing it again though. Greetings, I'm a bit worried now.

My hairdresser strongly advised against it.

She told me that they have to say it's harmless, but that hairdressers themselves don't do it...

    There's no truth to it...

I'd rather not do it anyway.

I'm getting really stressed. One person says you're poisoning your hair, the other says it's fine. One says don't use it in the first trimester, the other says it's always okay. One says it can get into your bloodstream, the other says no... I'm going completely crazy from all this Googling!! It's like; there are so many things that aren't good for you. Aspartame in light products.. the toxins sprayed all over your vegetables, radiation, air fresheners!!!! That's all way more dangerous than hair dye, yet nobody ever talks about that. I actually read an article recently saying that basically everything we eat and consider "normal" is super carcinogenic! So please start worrying about all those other things too! And not just this, because it's hypocritical Plus there are people who just keep smoking (I'm totally against it, so I definitely don't want to encourage it) but they have super healthy kids! I had my doubts too, but I'm just going to do it anyway, there's really nothing like being a beautiful pregnant woman! & if you're unsure; weigh the pros and cons and don't let it completely consume you
