Ladies, is it okay to just dye, color, or add highlights to your hair while pregnant?
I see so many different opinions when I search on Google. What's your experience/opinion?

    Hi Katie,
Dyeing your hair can't do any harm.
Highlights or lowlights either—they don't touch your scalp much, so you'll probably feel more comfortable with them.
    Hope that helps you out.

My barber didn't want to dye my hair when I was pregnant, he said it was bad for the baby.

haha two completely opposite reactions! funny.....I really want a nice haircut.....now one site says: absolutely no problem and the other site says: better not.....
just walked into a hairdresser and they said it's absolutely no harm.....mmmm difficult....

Can't hurt. I did it myself when I was 20 weeks and now that I'm 35 weeks. It's also a nice relaxing moment for yourself.

    Hi Katie,
Was I already there once, haha? It's tricky, right, all those stories online.
I'm a hairdresser myself, and it really can't do any harm to the baby.
They won't blow your hair up high now (due to the hydrogen peroxide), but just give it a color and some highlights, for example. It really can't do any harm nowadays; there's much less hydrogen peroxide these days.

@Katie, what a story! I used to work as a hairdresser myself, and it won't do any harm. It's a moment to enjoy, so nothing should hold you back.

    Colors that match your hair.

I'd go for a color rinse then; it's not as harsh as dye, but... there's an in-depth article about this on Brabbels. Maybe look it up?

    Hi Katie,

If you're not sure what the effect of the dyeing will be, you can always have it tested by the hairdresser. Then you'll know. I've read that it doesn't necessarily have to be bad for your baby, but there are plenty of women who can't stand the smell during their pregnancy. That's obviously pretty unpleasant if you have to sit in that fume for a while, haha.

    Good luck!

Sure, it's totally fine! Even the hairdresser and the doctor said so... I just dyed my hair recently;-)

    @Katie,
Sure, you can just dye your hair.
The products nowadays are on a really good basis.
    Enjoy it, girl.
Soon you'll hardly have any time left to do things like this.
A nice moment for Katie to just take it all in.

    Love, Ju

The chemicals (like ammonia, etc.) can be harmful to the baby, but not in such high concentrations, and you don’t get that in hair dye, mind you... (Our hair would burn!! haha) They weren’t sure about them before, but that’s been debunked.

If you want to be sure, go for ammonia-free or use a conditioner like Lexie says...

pity I listened to my hairdresser and didn't look around a bit more, otherwise I could've just had my hair dyed

    well, next time better

    Ah, the pregnant women's revolution!!
No more soup dresses, dark circles under the eyes, slippers, and flat hair, including regrowth, and saggy cheeks!!
Nothing is more beautiful than a pregnant woman who feels good in her own skin, takes good care of herself, and still looks good!!!

(Except for the days when we feel nauseous, puffy, can't get out of bed, and after a sleepless night we're sitting on the couch in a drool-stained sweatshirt, then yes..)

If you're not sure, just don't do it.
Your baby's health and yours right now are the most important things.

I'm a hairdresser myself. Currently, all professional brands are required to use less ammonia or no ammonia at all in their formulations! So don't worry, doing it today really can't do any harm! There are even extra ampoules you can add to your color mixture to provide extra protection for your scalp and hair! If you're still not confident about it, balayage definitely won't cause any harm since it doesn't touch the scalp! Just make sure you don't create too much contrast and that your hairdresser uses good products. For example, bleaching with argan oil instead of heavy volume can prevent dryness or dullness!! Especially during pregnancy, keratin can decrease rapidly in your hair due to hormones, and your hair might look dull compared to other women whose hair has never looked better than during pregnancy!! Many greetings, Marlies

Sorry, typo. I meant argan oil.

My sister is also a hairdresser and it's totally fine. Nowadays the products are so safe, no problemo! Look, you don't have to eat the dye or anything, but for your hair it can't do any harm. So just be a cool colored mom!
  18. Sigrid Guest #19

My hairdresser says coloring won't hurt, but I still don't dare to do it because I'm only 7 weeks pregnant right now.
  19. sondos Guest #20

I'm pregnant too. I also asked the hairdresser if I can dye my hair. She said yes, it's fine. It doesn't really matter. But I'm not sure and still scared.
