I have a question: I had sex before and after ovulation. Am I pregnant now, and how long?

You could be pregnant, but it’s also possible that you’re not. It depends on whether your egg was good and the quality of the sperm. Plus, you’re not really considered pregnant until it’s implanted in the uterine wall, and even then, things can still go wrong. I think I once read somewhere that it’s estimated that 70% of fertilized eggs don’t make it to a full-term pregnancy. This includes failed implantations as well as miscarriages. Despite that, the human population is still growing, so we’re all doing it often enough to end up in that 30% who do succeed.

How long you’d be pregnant depends on how many days past ovulation you are now. A test is the only way to confirm pregnancy, and you can calculate how far along you are by ultrasound or by counting back from the first day of your last period. The first two weeks between your period and ovulation are always counted, even if you weren’t officially pregnant yet at that time.

What a weird question.... sorry, but sometimes I'm really surprised by certain questions here. How can we predict whether you can get pregnant or not, and when? And yes, if you want to get pregnant, you have sex around your ovulation. Basic logic...
    But it's probably my fault.

Well, Clautjuh, don't be so unfriendly. First of all, it's an older thread, and secondly, there's no such thing as a weird question. The way the question is phrased might seem odd because it's a bit unclear, but just let people ask questions if they want to.

Rare questions do exist, and unclear ones too. And that can definitely be pointed out. Something I've done from here as well. What you think about it doesn't matter much to me anyway. Sorry....

It was unclear, yes, but you only pointed out what she did wrong and that it's weird. At least give some advice then.

I can totally relate to that.
I’m also incredibly annoyed that no one even bothers to type a proper Dutch sentence.
I don’t even understand the question.
If people want a normal answer, they should ask a normal question. We all went to school, after all.
  7. Moedertjuh #8

Yeah, how can you give advice when the question is so brief?
  8. Tooby #9

Yeah, we all went to school, but in a country like the Netherlands, you can't assume that 100% of people actually speak Dutch. Not everyone speaks perfect Dutch.

There was also some comment about how logical it is that you need to have intercourse around your ovulation to get pregnant... I mean... yeah, we know that because we're trying, but for people who aren't trying at all, who might not have had good education about it (if she's foreign), they don't know that.

It's disgusting when people judge someone for not understanding something and not speaking Dutch well. What if she's not Dutch? Would it be different then? Would people understand that she doesn't get it and can't phrase the sentence properly? Or maybe not yet?

    How can you give advice?

"Hello anonymous, I don't quite understand your question, could you try to make it clearer?"

Sounds a bit nicer than " What a weird question....sorry but sometimes I'm really amazed by certain questions here. How can we predict whether you can get pregnant or not and when? And yes, if you want to get pregnant, you have sex around your ovulation. Also logic.....
    But it's probably just me. '' "

It's not about me being able to write Dutch. I understand that if someone doesn't master the language, they can't do it 100%. But if you don't understand in this day and age (since everything can be googled) that you get pregnant by practicing around your ovulation, then I seriously start to wonder what else someone might not know. And that's my right to have an opinion, and I give it.
  11. Moedertjuh #12

I already knew about ovulation back in elementary school... long before I started thinking about having kids.
  12. Tooby #13

Yeah, that’s your right to have that opinion, I find it unnecessary. You already knew it in elementary school, great, not every immigrant had that info in elementary school, so if she is an immigrant, that’s only understandable. (If she isn’t, there could still be reasons)

I have a LITTLE understanding for people who don’t speak Dutch well and can’t handle a computer well. You don’t need to be so rude..but well, that’s my opinion and I also have the right to my opinion.
  13. Moedertjuh #14

You're already assuming she's an uneducated immigrant, Tooby. Wow... And if she can type that, it could have been a bit more detailed. And now I'm done arguing with you.
