I had a BMI of 30 when we started trying to conceive. At that time, I had a 40-day cycle. I don't know if that long cycle was due to my excess weight or to stopping the pill. Afterwards, my cycles were around 35 days.

Through a nutritionist and, strangely enough, eating more than before, I lost weight until I reached a BMI of 29. That same round of ovulation came beautifully on time (matching a 30-day cycle), and so after 6 months of trying, I was pregnant with our first baby!

So I do suspect that losing weight helped me get pregnant, but I know plenty of people with excess weight who got pregnant quickly and without any problems without losing weight. So there are definitely more factors than just your weight that determine how quickly you can get pregnant.

And in the first weeks of pregnancy, I lost another 7 kilos due to nausea and absolutely no appetite (the OB-GYN said it was fine, I had some reserves ). Now I'm 18 weeks pregnant and still weigh 6 kilos less than before I got pregnant. Hope it stays that way .
