Extra echo

Hi there! I'm 13 weeks pregnant now, but I don't feel pregnant at all. I had an ultrasound on Dec 22, and everything looked good. On Jan 2, we heard the heartbeat without an ultrasound, and on Jan 31, we'll hear the heartbeat again because the midwife we're seeing doesn't do ultrasounds. The next ultrasound will be on Feb 27, so there's a gap of over 9 weeks between the last one and the next. Is it weird that I want to ask for an extra ultrasound, or am I just being too insecure about everything? After more than 4 years of trying and one miscarriage, we finally got pregnant naturally, and I'm as insecure as can be. Does anyone have advice for me?

Best, Mellanie

It's totally normal to have such a long gap between ultrasounds. Luckily, there's no reason to worry! You can always get a private ultrasound done at 16 weeks, which a lot of people do, especially to find out the gender, but it's not necessary for your baby. Many women find the period between 12 and 20 weeks really nerve-wracking and strange—you're pregnant but don't feel much yet, people might not even notice, and you don't feel any movements, so that's logical! Just hang in there, I think.

With the oldest 2, I didn’t even get an ultrasound. (13/11 years).

Yeah, you’re feeling unsure, which is understandable. Hearing the heartbeat is basically the same as an ultrasound.
