After a C-section

LilaGuest ·
Hi everyone, I’d really like to have another baby, but I had a C-section 7 months ago. I’m also breastfeeding and it’s going well. But now I’m worried because I still haven’t gotten my period! Is this normal? Or should I be concerned?

I also breastfed and only got my period again when I stopped breastfeeding. I gave breastmilk for a year, so no, that's totally normal.

There are women who get their period and become fertile again while breastfeeding, and others who only become fertile after they’ve stopped breastfeeding. Both are normal, but it has nothing to do with your C-section.

Whether it’s wise to get pregnant while still breastfeeding is a different question. It’s possible, but it does put a lot of strain on your body. You might also want to check with your gynecologist for their advice, especially considering the scar from your C-section. Some say it’s better to wait a year, others say six months. There’s a very small chance that the scar could cause issues during labor because the uterine wall might be thinner there and could tear more easily if it hasn’t had enough time to heal. The risk is very small, but it’s still there.
