HELP!!! Got a positive pregnancy test but how did that happen?

Hi everyone. I'm just scaring myself here (read: Googling is stressful!). I need to explain my situation and hope someone can help me.

*** Miscarriage 2 months ago
*** Follow-up appointment 3 weeks ago with a blood test, HCG level was still 50. The doctor said that's possible but it needs to go down.
*** Another blood test 2 weeks ago, HCG level was 26. The doctor said that was good because it had dropped. So I didn't need to come back for another test. He said I could expect ovulation in about 1 week, when the HCG level was <5. And my period in 3 weeks.
*** Yesterday I suddenly had some brown discharge, very little but. And a single drop of blood.. Thought my period had started, although that would be a week too early. But today nothing at all.

Then I suddenly thought, what if it was implantation bleeding. We started trying again 8 days ago. So in terms of timing, could that be right? I still had a pregnancy test lying around, so I just did it, and I see a very faint line...

Now I think on the one hand: could the line still be from my previous pregnancy..? But if my HCG was 26 two weeks ago, then it should be VERY low now, right? Can't that test pick that up anymore? Could the line be from a new pregnancy? But that also seems impossible because if we had sex 8 days ago, then implantation just happened because it takes about a week and everywhere says a test can only pick that up 4 days after implantation... so it's almost impossible that it's already visible...

How do I know what that line means now???

Tricky, I tell you. Do you have a photo of the test? Is it a real faint line? Because if you can see it well, it looks like a new pregnancy to me, and I hope so for you

Iig 48uur wachten. Is it a new pregnancy, then the line will run, if it's your miscarriage then it will fade. I would maybe wait more than 48 hours, 5 days or longer. Then you give your body some time to make something clear to you.. Good luck.

If I were you, I’d take another pregnancy test in a week.
You could also have your GP do a blood test to check your hCG levels again. That way you’ll know for sure whether it’s gone up or not.

It would be pretty quick to be pregnant again already, but nothing’s impossible.

@floydi: this is the test. Still a faint line, but it could be only 8 days after conception.. 6 days before the expected period.

@hartje: so hard to wait.. be. So impatient!

@sietske: I got pregnant right away both other times in the first round, so it could indeed be, but the little bit of bleeding doesn't sit right with me.. never had it before...

Yeah, it really is a clear test! Usually you can read on the packaging at what hCG level it shows positive! But I have a good feeling about it. I’m rooting for you even though I don’t have anything to do with it.

Thanks for your positivity, Floydi. Good question too, I just quickly grabbed the instruction manual and it says the test shows positive from 25 HCG. So that would mean my level is now higher than 25 and probably higher than the 26 from two weeks ago... that would be a good sign. On the other hand, it also says you can only use the test from 4 days before your expected period... and for me it's 6-7 days before my expected period now, so it would be unlikely that it picked it up... sigh. I'll definitely test again soon. I tested 3 days ago too and then the line was less visible than now, but that was a different, cheaper brand. So I think I'll buy that brand again tomorrow and see what that test says... I know, I'm impatient!

I see a real line too!! I really hope it hits the mark again!! I'm curious to see if the tests show higher levels in a few days. And yeah, if there's any uncertainty, get an hcg injection. So exciting!!

If your ovulation was earlier, your period would also be earlier.

Coconut... you're pregnant again amazing... this line is way too clear for an hcg of 20... I also had a high hcg and tested positive 6 days before my period was due (test on profile pic) it should be under 5 after 2 weeks... and if you tested 3 days ago and it's higher now, there's definitely no doubt (Clearblue is known for being less sensitive) anyway... I'm so happy for you and it's your blessing ps it can definitely happen so close together... super fertile

Super! I can imagine you're still a bit unsure, hope you get the clear test result soon. I suddenly recognize you from the forum with the moms. After all that hassle, it's doubly blessed for you!

I get so sad hearing the word 'miscarriage'...
But was it really a miscarriage?

I bought the test but haven't taken it yet... the bleeding has come back a little... grrrrrrrr! Let's see what happens next... if that doesn't give us clarity, I'll take the test over the weekend when my boyfriend is home..! Thanks everyone for thinking with me!

Anonymous, I don't quite understand your message? What do you mean by 'Because it was a medical termination'?

Yes unfortunately.. it was a medical termination. On the scan they saw that the baby had no stomach or bladder, the intestines and the heart were growing outside the body. There was also no umbilical cord, so if the miscarriage were to start naturally it would be dangerous due to the risk of tearing the placenta and bleeding, so the miscarriage was induced under supervision.

I am curious who you are though..
  15. Anoniem Guest #16

Oh, that's so sad. Then I misunderstood it all wrong.
I hope so for you too! I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Separate response indeed. Coconut, very exciting. And unfortunately, wait and see!

Good luck, dear Coconut! I'll be rooting for you, girl!!

By the way, it doesn't look very promising here either. The bleeding won't stop... It's still definitely not comparable to a normal period because it's really much less. Especially when wiping and a little bit in the band-aid.. and it's mostly very dark red/brown. So different. But now it's been like this for 3 days in a row. So I think that's a bad sign anyway.

Did a test this morning. It's only 'just' 10 days since we started having unprotected sex again, so it's still a bit early since implantation should only have just happened... Still see a very faint line. Starting to think maybe it was positive but didn't stick.

    That's so sad, sweetheart!
