After how many months postpartum did you get your period again?

My question to you all:
I gave birth in August and I was exclusively breastfeeding, but recently I've started partially because I'm working again.
I've had two periods now and haven't had one for the last 3 months—probably my cycle is still messed up.
But my husband wanted me to check just in case, hence my question.

    Hi
After my first period, I got my “period” again after 14 weeks. It wasn’t like before the pregnancy (no stomach pain, much less bleeding, and also very irregular with a long cycle). I think I didn’t ovulate, because I was still giving breast milk, for example. After about 7 months, I ovulated again, but got my period the following week (like usual). Then I ovulated again and got pregnant (still giving breast milk). It’s been 6.5 months since I gave birth to the second one, and I’m still giving breast milk, no sign of a period yet.
But I think it’s different for everyone. Breast milk increases prolactin, which suppresses your menstrual cycle.

I think you'll get different answers, every body is different. With me it was 5.5 to 6 months before I got my period again (and got pregnant right away).
I've heard more often that it can still be irregular at first!

Thanks, ladies. So no reason to worry then.
It'll probably still be irregular for me.

Hi, I'm giving formula but got my period again after 3.5 months. But maybe it's related to my curettage. 7 weeks after giving birth, there was still a piece of placenta according to the doctors. I thought my body was still pregnant all that time.

    Hi Siska,
I got my period again 12 weeks after giving birth, after I started taking the pill again on my gynecologist's advice. So it's definitely normal that you haven't gotten your period regularly yet, or at all.

If it still doesn't come, I'd go to the gynecologist just to be sure. They still know more than we women with experience

Thank you, ladies, for your replies.
Out of caution, I took a test and to my great shock, I'm pregnant.
It might sound harsh, but it's completely unplanned, and our little daughter Izabel is only 4 months old

Oh wow! That’s true too! Let me reassure you: how much time is there between the kids? You can only hope it’s not twins like it was for me
No girl, it’s quite an adjustment at first, but believe me, you’ll get through it! You’ll soon fall into that baby groove and when they grow up, it’ll be so much fun! Lots of spitting up on the forum!

Hi sweetheart, thank you for your kind reply.
Well, I totally didn't expect this.
Izabel is almost 4 months old, and according to the calculation, I'm now 6 weeks pregnant.
I'm against abortion but I don't know how to tell my family and people yet
It's nice that you phrase it as if I'm going to keep it and that it'll be cozy for both kids later.
I'll just have to trust that.

Wow, sweetheart, a twin is special!
I almost missed it because of the nerves.

my post is from me, such nerves forgot my name above

Oh my! Yeah, you don’t expect that, of course. But how lovely for your little girl that she’ll soon have a brother or sister who’s only a year younger. It’s going to be really busy for you at first, but they’ll have so much fun with each other once they’re a bit older. A friend of mine has two boys who are a year and a week apart, and it’s so sweet to see how close friends they are. I was also unexpectedly pregnant with my second. My son just turned one. It took a little while to get used to the idea, but now I’m really happy about it. Kids are a blessing, and being pregnant is a huge miracle. Enjoy it because it goes by so fast. You can do it, girl!!

Siska, I was totally freaking out too, I completely relate! Like, wow, is this really happening? Really? Really? And yeah, I was a bit scared of people's reactions too, but didn't hear anything weird. Well, there was one quirky person who said: "Then you'll be done with it quickly," as if being pregnant is a punishment.. It's not going to be smooth sailing, but what a blessing, another baby. Take it easy and just let it happen! I couldn't explain it to my son: you were wanted, your brothers or sisters weren't, and I didn't see them coming, so I took their lives away. No, I don't want to be sitting at the kitchen table like that in 10 years, so I'll just power through! Admit it to yourself if it's tough, that's okay. It doesn't have to be all rosy, being pregnant is always an achievement!
Is your partner there so you can process it together? I called my sister back then, really needed an outlet. I still remember the moment like it was yesterday!

    thanks girls for the support
mom-an what a nice thing that your boys don’t care much about each other
and you said it beautifully, children are indeed a blessing.
    thanks for the encouragement.
heart, that makes me think too about what you say, I would indeed feel guilty if I didn’t go through with it, which would probably haunt me forever
if I didn’t go for it.
but to answer your question, my dear man won’t be happy about this, he’ll be just as shocked as I am when he finds out, only he’ll find it easier to think about ending the pregnancy
I want to tell my parents first, gently, hoping they won’t be too shocked, like “what, the fifth one!”

My husband already has kids from his previous marriage, and they're often at our place, so it gets pretty busy when they're all together.

He has 3 kids himself, 3 boys, and they sleep a lot at our place, so yeah, my mom will probably have to piece it all together herself, pff, tricky.
But anyway, I’m gathering my courage and will tell her this weekend.
Her birthday is on Sunday, so it’ll be a surprise on her birthday, haha.
I managed to tell my niece Christie yesterday, with whom I have a very close bond.
I’ve only told her outside of you guys, and she was happy for me.
She was glad for me and said I should look at it positively.
I hope the rest takes it well too.

I already made an appointment with the midwife for next week. The assistant on the phone said I need to see it on the ultrasound, so I'll be 7 weeks pregnant then, which means it'll also be the first ultrasound.

You're pretty fertile, huh. My old neighbor boy was only a bit more than 9 months apart from his brother, so it can get even crazier. But you know, even if it's not planned, who knows, it might end up being very much wanted by everyone. Besides, it's all about whether you two see it as a family and want to go for it.
