Are free boxes really free?

Hi everyone.
I'm wondering if the free boxes like the Happy Box and similar ones are really as free as they're advertised. I'm a bit worried that you might get stuck with the magazines.

Have you had any experience with the boxes, and is the amount of advertising worth it compared to what's inside the boxes?

These are really free, but they do use your details for magazine ads.

And you can put 70% of it out with the trash. But well, it's free so we'll pick it up.
    Other nice freebies:
Kaartje2go gives you your order amount back if you give birth on the due date.
And at Plusmarkt you get a shopping box worth a certain amount when you submit your birth announcement.

I really enjoyed the Etos box. Some of the ads could have been left out, of course. Booklets from 3 months ago, which weren't too distracting anyway. Two types of alcohol-free drinks, diapers, Difrax pacifier, Zwitsal, Etos belly balm, a CD with calming music for your baby (whether it works is always debatable), and VSM's Calendula baby ointment for the bottom. Really great, very satisfied!
