Health insurance (NL)

Hey everyone,
We really want to try for a baby next year.
So I'm secretly already starting to prepare a bit, and since it's almost time to update our insurance, I was wondering if it's necessary to switch from the basic package.
Do you take pregnancy into account when choosing insurance?
And which insurance providers did you choose?

Greetings!

Hi anon, I was with CZ when I wanted to get pregnant. I called my insurer to say I wanted to adjust my package for 2017. They really thought it over and said you can switch with CZ whenever you want, even when pregnant. They rightly pointed out that you can't plan a pregnancy, so adjusting your package now is pointless. I only increased my package when I was actually pregnant and started having pelvic issues around 6 months. So it's best to check with your insurer whether you can switch during the year if you get pregnant; many insurers in the Netherlands allow this.

At VZV, you can't switch mid-pregnancy either, even though she said yes, a pregnancy can't be planned, of course. So it's definitely wise to look into this. Visits to the GP are covered by the basic insurance, but things like a home birth and the out-of-pocket costs for postnatal care aren't included in the basic package.
