Doubt

Hi everyone,
We (I) are debating the name Lisse. We think it's a beautiful name for a boy, bbbbbut..
Online we see that this is "officially" a girl's name.
My partner doesn't mind and we don't know any girls named Lisse (in Friesland).
But I'm still unsure.
What do you all think? Is it a typical girl's name or can it work well for a boy too?
Thanks in advance! Best wishes!

I'll probably never run into you, let alone your son, so what does my opinion matter anyway but I also think it's more of a girl's name..

I wouldn't do it either, but mostly because Lisse really sounds like a place name to me!
Plus, it feels more like a girl's name than a boy's name; I find it sounds feminine.

I'm just sharing my opinion and don't want to hurt anyone...
Lisse is peeing against the wall.
Please don't do this to your baby.

I’d indeed never have come up with Lisse as a name. Just because it’s a place name. (I wouldn’t choose Paris or something like that either, but that’s just your taste. I already made a joke about naming our baby after our town :-) not so.)

But as a child’s name... well, if you really want to. I find it more girly. But hey, Anne can also be a boy’s name, so why not.
What boompje says is true, there are many rhymes with Lisse (handy for Sinterklaas though)

I don't want to hurt anyone, but I don't think Lisse is a boy's or girl's name at all. It's fine as a place name, obviously. I do know the names Libbe or Lasse. There's a footballer who goes by that name. But I've never heard of Lisse for a boy.

Maybe Eliza, Litse, or Lisso could be an option?

I initially thought more about a girl's name too! But I do find it a funny, original name Maybe this is also somewhat region-dependent? I've never heard of the place Lisse myself, so that helps too, and the rhyming... well, you can rhyme with a lot of names anyway. Kids will tease each other anyway if they want to, and I don't think whether a name is easy or hard to rhyme makes much difference..

I know of one Lisse and that's a girl. As a girl's name, it comes from Elizabeth.

There is indeed also a place in South Holland that is called that. Well, then you just say that the boy's name comes from the place name. And people get used to it automatically. If this fits with you, go for it.

I actually think Lisse is quite nice for a boy

Oh, and do most of you then say to Lisse: "Liesse" or do you write it like Lis-se?
    That's it for now

To be honest, it doesn't come across to me as a child's name. More like a girl's name, and definitely not for a boy. But you'll have to decide for yourselves whether you want to name your child July. Just sharing my opinion.

Kjeld and Ids are also nice. ;-)
  13. Debby Guest #14

I think Kjeld and Lisse sound nice together.
Kjeld and Lasse could also work.
  14. Anonymous Guest #15

Kjeld isn't a Frisian name, it's Scandinavian, isn't it? I think Lisse is also a girl's name. Lasse, like Debby suggests, I think is a nice Scandinavian alternative for a boy! I also like Lars and Tore. Jesse is Frisian and also nice.
