B.H?

Hi everyone!

We want to name our baby Bram, but his last name starts with an H, which means you'd get B.H. as initials. We also have a middle name, so it would be Bram Jurian H... What do you all think of that? Or would it still just be B.H.?

How does Bram Jurian sound to you?

    I wouldn't call him BH...

but if there's a middle name in between, Jurian in this case, wouldn't it be b.j.h.?

Your last name is always spelled out in full anyway. Initials generally refer to the letters of the first names.

Just as an example, the last name Hout.

Single Bram would be B. Hout

Bram Julian would be B.J. Hout

Yeah, and since you use initials so often, it’ll just stay BH. But just do what you like, that’s what matters most.

With that J. in the middle, I think it works great!

We're not doing it... our last name starts with a C. For this reason, we consciously choose a name that doesn't start with W! Despite the middle names and how much we like some names with W.
But you should mainly do what feels right for you!
    Good luck!

ours also has an abbreviation of S.M. just like his godmother who was never teased for that either. this is just about what you feel good with

Bram H.... is totally fine because when initials are requested, it usually just means the first letter of the first name, or the first letters of multiple first names. The last name is always written out fully. So the association with BH will rarely happen.

What you probably mean is that when you sign documents, people often use the first and last initial. But you can always choose your own. Sometimes companies even require a specific 3-letter signature or something. You choose your own signature, and if your name is Sam Mens, it could just be sme or sam (oops, coincidence) (or any other combination you make up).

Grin. ..ok, that rule about surnames doesn't apply to criminals either, it's mostly the other way around :-p

When do you actually use your initials? If the letters of the first names form a weird combo, I get it—that shows up on contracts, mail, etc. Or a weird rhyme or embarrassing name combo. But your first initial and the first letter of your last name? I've never seen mine anywhere. My signature is a mini version of the 'curl' in my actual signature, so you can't distinguish the letters separately. And honestly, who laughs at B.H.? Maybe kids, but they never use it anyway. By the time he's an adult, it's long been no issue (assuming it even comes up, which I don't think it does). In short: I wouldn't let it stop you!
