Ear piercing for a 3-year-old

Hi, I have another question.
My ex and I broke up, but our son is turning 3 on October 10th. I wanted to get his ears pierced as a gift. Do I need to ask the father for permission or not? P.S. We both have joint custody.
Hope someone can tell me more about this. I don't want to have to bother my lawyer again.
Best wishes, an anonymous mom

    Hey!

I would make it discussable if you both have authority. We had an incident where the little girl had her hair cut extremely short without my husband's permission. There were some harsh words and a lot of fuss about that.

It's good for the bond if you discuss things together, even if it's not always easy. Communication and relationships will eventually improve regarding the child. But by making it discussable first, you strengthen the bond rather than just making it worse by doing it anyway.

    Hope this helps you out.
    I know the situation

Thanks for the reply. I'll send dad a text and ask what he thinks.
Dad can be quite difficult when I want to discuss things with him regarding our little boy, but I'll give it a try.

I think it's quite a lot to pierce a hole in a 3-year-old's ear. It's definitely more permanent than just cutting it off. Of course, it happens a lot and everyone should know what they're doing. But I would definitely discuss such actions. I would be furious if my kids suddenly came home with holes. (They can have them someday, of course.) But if your ex-husband has problems with it or is trying to cause trouble, what then? What if complications arise? You'll end up taking the blame. Keep the relationship on your side tidy and discuss it.

    Good luck

Of course, you should discuss that.

Especially don't do it. Let him choose for himself when he's old enough.

As long as the child doesn't bring it up themselves, I wouldn't get their ears pierced. Regardless of whether it's a boy or a girl. If they ask for it themselves, well then it's up to the parents to decide if they're okay with it.
