I'm looking for a tough and somewhat original name, but not too out there.

I think Melle is nicer, mainly because I already know so many Sams. I like both names, but not necessarily very tough. They both get given to girls sometimes too.

Then I'd go with Melle. Sam is fine, but if you want an original name, it's out. Sam is quite common. Melle isn't exactly original either, but it's much less common.

    Melle!

I think Melle is such a nice name! You hear it less often than Sam.
    Is Mels still an option?

Thanks for your replies! They're indeed not exactly super tough names, but I don't mind that so much. I'd really like to give our son a nice name that isn't too out there, is timeless, flows really well, is fun, and isn't completely one in a dozen... pfff, so difficult.

I'm not sure about Mels.. I didn't really know it either.. My boyfriend thinks Sverre is really nice too, but I'm not sure about that name either, I don't think it's sweet enough or something..

If you have more opinions/ideas, feel free to share! It's really nice and nice to 'brainstorm' a bit!

I think Sverre is really beautiful too!

Sam I think is a nice name, but indeed not that original.
I find Melle a very soft name and would therefore not choose it myself.
I do like Sverre, but I think people won't understand it right away if they don't know the name.
