Hi ladies, my partner and I decided today to have a baby! I'm in my final year of university and we plan to stop the pill in 6 months. I'm jumping with joy!

Yes, how lovely. I’d really like to have a baby now. My boyfriend keeps reminding me that I need to finish my studies first, otherwise it’ll only get harder later. But the reality is that I want a baby so badly that I don’t know if I can wait a whole year. Especially since I work with children. Does anyone know what I can do to prepare for getting pregnant from now on? We’ve decided to stop the pill in 6 months.

    Love,
    Ashley

Hi Ashley, it's so nice that you're trying to conceive and planning to stop the pill in about half a year. We stopped last month, and I'm really curious to see when we'll get pregnant. I started taking vitamin supplements from Kruidvat last month: "Vitaal Zwanger Worden" (Vital to Conceive). I think it's good to start taking these a few months before you want to get pregnant. And of course, the "logical" things: eat healthy, stay active, don't smoke, and avoid drugs. Basically, be as healthy as possible.
Wishing you lots of success while waiting—I can imagine how hard that must be. I find it really tough too, waiting until we're pregnant. Hopefully soon!
    Love, Danielle

Oh yeah?! Then I'll try those pills too. And I drink a glass of wine now and then, and nothing else. I get enough exercise. I can't wait anymore, and my boyfriend can't either. I'm so excited to get pregnant, I'll do a dance of joy. First, though, I need to finish my studies.
It's so nice to chat about such a fantastic topic.
Wishing you lots of luck with getting pregnant. X

    Hi Ashley,

That's lovely! But anticipating the event is often just as fun, so make sure to enjoy that too!
Maybe it's a good idea to stop the pill now and switch to, say, condoms. That way your body can start "weaning off" the pill. It can sometimes take a while for your cycle to become regular, and this is handy for calculating your ovulation later on. Also, I've heard that your cycle might become longer than usual this way, meaning fewer chances.
So, finish your studies quickly and then get to work!

    Hi Indy,
Yeah, I was thinking about that too. I’ve heard from a few people who got pregnant within a few weeks after stopping the pill, and from others that it really takes a long time. If it’s up to me, I’d want to get pregnant now, but yeah, first the diploma. So maybe it’s not a bad idea to stop the pill now. I also heard you can take certain vitamins. So I’ll start doing that too.
I’m so excited to finally start a family with my lovely boyfriend and just be a mom.
    Do you already have kids?!

I can't wait either! Once the decision is made, you just can't hold back, right?! I don't have kids yet, so we're going for the first one! I took out the NuvaRing on July 31st, so I'm now in my second cycle. I'm only taking folic acid and otherwise trying to eat healthily. I used to have a glass of alcohol now and then, but I'm not doing that anymore, and I already didn't smoke. My boyfriend also skips his occasional beer, except during the week I'm on my period. I'm not going to start taking other vitamins until I'm actually pregnant. The vitamins you take to get pregnant are, in my opinion, mainly to regulate your cycle, but I'll let my body do that naturally.

Nice that you're going for it. I'd also stop the pill now.
Yeah, for the no-pill phase, but also to get an idea of your cycle and when you ovulate. You can note all this in your planner, and when you're ready to try, you'll know which days are your peak fertile days and when you really have a chance!

Of course, discuss it with your partner first...

    Good luck!
