Chance of pregnancy with late ovulation? Day 23 in a 28-day cycle

Dewii
Hi,

We've been trying to conceive since the beginning of this year. For this cycle, I decided to start using ovulation tests because we're getting a bit impatient, and also because I had the feeling (and still do) that we were missing my ovulation window (it felt like I was sensing ovulation about a week later than usual).

I started testing every morning from day 11 and didn't see a dark line until day 23. Because I got abdominal cramps and lower back pain specifically on Sunday (day 23), I took another test in the evening, and yes, a thick line! The next morning, the ovulation test was positive again.

My menstrual cycle is shortest at 27 days and longest at 30 days. According to the app that shows the average, I should be getting my period again this coming Thursday. So, if ovulation was only last Sunday, isn't that way too late? What's your experience with this?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

    Hi Diwi,
I also have a cycle of 27/28 days and ovulation always on day 19/20. I just found out that I'm pregnant! Today is day 28 and Clearblue shows positive for 1-2 weeks. I immediately went to the doctor to get blood drawn. Tomorrow I'll get the results! So exciting!!!

Wow, super exciting! Congratulations, that's so lovely!! You can go straight to your doctor to get a blood test, how nice.

I hope I'll have such good news soon too, it's day 28 now and no period yet. Fingers crossed!!

You'll probably have a longer cycle this time. On average, your period comes (or doesn't) 14 days after ovulation. This cycle might be a bit shorter, but 5 days is really too short. So I think you'll need to wait a bit longer. Good luck!

Thanks Wensje2, indeed, let's wait and see...
Since the duration of my cycle is quite regular, min 27, max 30 days, we thought it was fine! Glad that now in round 8 we've started using ovulation tests for even more insight. Now that my ovulation is only so late, I do worry if I base it on my average cycle. I have the feeling that my ovulation has always been later than I expected, and now I'm going to get a (much) longer cycle. That would be weird too! But it's a nicer idea because then the LH test would at least match up better. I'm not (anymore) so good at calmly waiting, I guess haha..

Here I am on day 31... had blood drawn and not pregnant... but... these are my ovulation tests

Bummer that you're not pregnant. Which day was your ovulation peak and your NFP? Have you gotten your period yet?
  7. Wensje2 #8

Mamavan6, your egg seems to be coming along since your test is progressing. Good luck, ladies. Unfortunately, I know how it feels with those long cycles

It is possible, you know. I did an ovulation test, so I'm 100% sure that my ovulation was on day 19 this month. And just now I got the blood test result. HCG is 39, I thought it was low, but according to the doctor it's very normal, only 10 days after ovulation. She says I can already be cautiously happy. Monday confirmation with the second blood test. This will be a thrilling weekend.
Wishing everyone lots of success! ???

Super exciting! Keep us posted! Rooting for you!

It's day 29 here and no sign of a period yet If it doesn't show up today (which I expect), my LH will definitely jump up to day 4/5.
I'm actually unsure whether my ovulation was on Sunday (day 24) or Monday (day 25) (photo).

    Thanks!
My gynecologist said you shouldn’t focus too much on the ovulation tests. Sometimes the egg can rupture a few hours before the test peaks. Well, we happened to practice every day for the 4 days before, so that worked out well.
I’m rooting for you that it works out! What a stressful time!
I’m already scouring the internet to see if 39 HCG is normal at 10 days past ovulation. But I can’t find anything about it. Pfff
    Have a nice weekend!

Yesss, you just can't resist, right? You've gotta do something to pass the time and get more info!

Hope what she says is true. At least you've practiced enough beforehand, so that's all good, haha!

Have a nice weekend too, relaxxx!

No, still not on my period... I'm going to make it cozy tonight

Exciting, mamavan6, still hoping for good news later, stay positive!

Sparkle, I think it's probably okay?

The hCG value for a pregnancy test
A pregnancy test can measure the hCG levels in your urine from about 28 days after your last period started. At that point, the value should be around 25 IU/l. In principle, you could take a pregnancy test from the first day you're late, but a week later gives you more certainty.

    Hi Dewi,
I always had a 28-day cycle. Then suddenly 2 months of 25 days. I thought fine, nice short cycles. Last month I suddenly was on day 33 for the very first time.. I was already happy that I got my period because I just didn't know what was wrong with my body.. 3 negative tests and I got my period on day 33 anyway..
This month I used ovulation tests because I was completely lost.. Started on day 8 because of those 25 days first.. The tests stayed very light.. I was skeptical. Until last Thursday and Friday I tested thick lines and smiley tests.. Couldn't believe it so did 1 sensitest and 1 Clear blue. The next day still a smiley..
Fortunately Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and hoping tonight to get lucky haha.
But this just shows how weird it is, your body. If I now assume 2 weeks after ovulation I get my period, I'm back on a 33-day cycle.

I'm going to Curacao for 2 weeks on Sep 2nd.. I'll have to either get my period or not. My parents are in the same cottage.. I of course hope with all my heart that this month it works but how am I going to keep that secret from my parents haha. Pretend I'm on my period? I hardly dare to talk about it because then I'm afraid it will work against me haha

Sparkle, good luck with the 2nd blood test today!

Mamavan6, do you know any more yet?

Beau, that's exciting! So you're counting down to your due date. And then off to Curacao later, that would be extra nice if it's positive :-) If it's good news, you won't have to pretend you're on your period there, right? I assume your parents don't know your cycle... or do they!?

I'm now on day 7 past ovulation! This is cycle day 31, which is 1 day longer than my longest cycle so far. So exciting! I feel a lot of bubbling in my tummy, no idea if that means anything haha. I really want to test already because I'm past my longest due date, but yeah, it's still so close to ovulation so not yet... I had planned to test on Thursday if my period doesn't arrive (9DPO). Sparkle, you did that too, right? Was that with an extra-sensitive test or a 'regular' one?
  16. Sparkle Guest #17

    Hi Diwi,
I tested on day 28, yes. With the Clearblue test. So exciting!!! Keep me posted, okay!
Just had blood drawn. But it's pretty clear to me. I'm exhausted, nauseous, and yesterday I cried and sniveled because my husband brought home pizza instead of fries. ????????
Also burst into tears at the doctor's office. I feel so tired and drained. She suggested prescribing a few days of rest. But unfortunately, it's too busy at work and I can't stay home.
Tomorrow around midday I can call for the results.
  17. Dewii started this #18

Hahaha how does your husband even come up with the idea to get pizza when you're expecting fries! And did those symptoms start suddenly this weekend? That's another confirmation that it's probably just like that, amazing really. It's annoying that you can't take a step back at work. Just keep an eye on it for a bit, and if it really doesn't feel right, just call in sick, okay? Take care of yourself.

Is it correct that your ovulation was on Aug 15? Then I can calculate when I should take a test.
  18. Sparkle Guest #19

    Hi,
My ovulation test was positive on August 14th, so my egg would have been released within 72 hours after that, right? So yes, it was on the 14th or 15th of August.
  19. mamavan6 #20

Unfortunately still not pregnant and no period
