No, don't use diminutives. So I think it's awful. Cute for a few years, but then in puberty they want to change their name.
Wies is actually fine, then you can call her Wiesje if needed. A bit old-fashioned, my grandma was called Wies, but that's trendy again these days. -

I think Wies is nice. But as Nette already said, don't use diminutives with it. -

I really like Wies! Not so much with 'je' after it (only when she's little).
