Period after miscarriage

Miss*Dees*
Dear ladies,
In early April, I lost our little wish after a short pregnancy of 5 weeks. It's been a few months since then and we're trying to conceive again.
After the miscarriage, they found out I had cysts on my left ovary and small ones on my right. But this could also have been due to pregnancy hormones.
However, since the miscarriage, I've had a very strange period. I barely need pads, and this month it only lasted 1.5 days. Before the miscarriage, I usually had a heavy period for 7 days...
Do you have any tips? I think I'll call my GP tomorrow... my periods are getting shorter and shorter.
Love

Hi, that's so sad! I had a miscarriage here too... in April this year.
I'd definitely consult your midwife and actually request an ultrasound at the hospital. Just a check-up to see if everything inside is okay, clean... it's also good for yourself.
Maybe an idea to get your blood drawn? Maybe you're already pregnant?

    Love,

    Niv

Thanks for your quick reply. After all those miscarriages... I notice that I'm getting back on track mentally now, but sometimes I have dips with sadness. The baby is more than welcome.
I did take a test on Monday or Tuesday, 2 days before my period, and it was negative. Last time I tested positive very early. The previous ultrasound looked clear, only some old blood.
I think blood tests aren't standard here. I live in the Netherlands.

How do you feel now after the miscarriage? Are you already a mom? Or was this your first child?

Yes, I totally get that. The feeling we have as women is so intense and sad; a miscarriage is just sad. Did you have a spontaneous one or a D&C?
    I had a D&C... I've had a total of 2 miscarriages. 2 years ago and last April.
We're trying for a second now, hoping it'll work out soon.
That you're not testing positive yet doesn't mean anything, it's all about your hCG levels.
You could get your blood tested for hCG, that's more accurate.
Believe it or not, our thoughts really do influence our cycle... at least that's what I believe. I promised myself not to think about it too much now, but here I am on the forums again :-) I'm so excited but also unsure..

I lost the baby spontaneously. From the moment I got a positive test, I had brown discharge... I was so happy but at the same time very unsure because I felt something wasn't right. I haven't really been focusing on it much this past month. Only tested because of a night out and wondered if I should bring sanitary pads. I've been trying for a year with my ex and now over 8 months with my current partner... it feels so long. And everyone around me just gets pregnant. I think I'm not pregnant now... but why such a short period, barely a wipe. 1 day of pads and 1 tampon the next day...
I'll call tomorrow... My body feels so weird...

Yeah, it can seem like a long time, indeed. I totally get where you're coming from.

Are you using ovulation tests? That could really be a lifesaver! Then at least you're timing things on your right days I'm currently using the Clearblue ones, with a smiley on my ovulation day.. let's see if it helps..

I feel for you. Shortly after I heard that the heartbeat wasn't there, I had a baby shower, and got 2 messages from friends who are pregnant. Super happy, but so bittersweet. It's normal to feel that way..

But you're doing the right thing by going to your OB-GYN to rule things out or get more info. But do try to push your concerns, they can easily brush off their patients (not meant negatively).

    Xx

Yes, I've been using ovulation tests for a few months now. I didn't use them this past month... I found out that my sister-in-law is pregnant and now I have to organize a baby shower for her. No one knows about our wish and the sadness.
Yes, I often feel like I'm too big, but the midwife said at the time that if I have any problems, she'll refer me right away. But now I'm going through the GP after all!
But the baby is so welcome and I really want to keep it quiet so it's a big surprise for everyone.

Yes, and especially if you don't want to talk about it or keep it quiet, it's definitely harder. Same here.
I hope you get pregnant again soon and have a healthy pregnancy! Curious what the midwife will say.

I got an appointment with a GP in training this morning. She referred me to the OB-GYN, and I can go next Monday. She mentioned that an ultrasound will definitely be done. Hopefully, they'll take a good look so that if something's wrong, we can switch to another plan!
  9. Niveamam #10

Oh, that's great! Then you'll definitely have more certainty and hopefully less uncertainty.

Yes, and if all goes well, ovulation in 2 days, so maybe they can also see if an egg is ready to pop! I find it quite nerve-wracking. But if something had remained after the miscarriage, wouldn't I have had a positive test?
  11. Niveamam #12

Well, I don't know if you would have had a positive test then? They told me it can stay in your blood for max 6 weeks (hCG).
Did you not have a follow-up ultrasound after your miscarriage?

No, only during... and ten saw only blood but the day before she lost the baby... but then she clearly saw that she would still bleed quite a bit. Lost the baby about 10 hours earlier...

    Hmmm
I’d still ask for an ultrasound, just to be sure! Then you’ll know for sure that everything is out.
