When is a name too close?

We’ve found a name for our daughter that we’ve been in love with for a long time. We actually wanted to use it during our first pregnancy, but then we had a boy. Now we know we’re having a girl, and this name just keeps coming up for us. The only issue is that there’s already a little girl with the same name—she’s the daughter of my brother-in-law’s sister. That means my brother and his wife will soon have two nieces with the same name. That girl visits them regularly, and she’s even been out with my brother, his wife, and our son before. So the rest of my in-laws know her/the name too. We don’t see this girl weekly, but since my brother and his wife do, it feels too close to me to feel comfortable using the name. My husband wants to go ahead and use it, but I feel it’s a pity that there might be a bit of a 'thing' at the beginning (though everyone will get used to it) when she’s born. On the other hand, it’s still the cutest name, so I keep hesitating. When do you think a name is too close to use?

Heyy congratulations on your pregnancy Personally, I think it's close to home if my siblings or my husband's siblings had the same name. I think my husband wouldn't like it either if the grandparents had 2 grandchildren with the same name.. My sister-in-law/brother's sister is personally also a bit ahead of me. Everyone is their own person with their own child and everyone lives in their own house so even if you have the same name it doesn't mean you have the same life By the way, imagine your child goes to school and in the class there is someone else with the same name, can that happen? The teacher won't say hey you have the same name you go sit in another class? They have to share the same class for 10 months and who knows they might be in the same class from preschool until they go to high school ..

Hi, thanks! It's not that I want to avoid meeting anyone with the same name—I know that'll probably happen at least once in her life. It's more that people close to us already know a girl with that name, which makes it a bit awkward when announcing it and in the beginning, and I don't want any awkwardness But I also don't want to later think, "Should I have..." It's tricky!

I also think it's too close if it's my siblings or my husband's. Otherwise, like your sister-in-law's sister, I don't see a problem. I'd just give the name.

You also say that you're in love with it (the name) I'd say!!
