So I'm looking for a tough name for my first baby, a boy, whom I'm expecting in December this year. I had Mason as my favorite for quite a while, but a few days ago I came across the name Wolf and I'm totally in love. However, I'm afraid that many people here might think differently. So I'd really like to hear your opinions on the name Wolf. (I have an Italian last name).

Unique! And you're the only ones who can make this choice. I'd just do it!

Not my preference. I'm not really a fan. But I wouldn't give my kids animal names either. Opinions differ, of course. If you think it's a nice name, then go for it!

I really like the name Wolf myself; it has a tough sound and isn't standard. I'd just go ahead and give it to him, because your child will grow up with it and find it completely normal that he's called that. You don't get much from other people's reactions anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it. If people need to get used to it, then so be it. Even with the most 'normal' names, people sometimes need a moment to adjust.

If you do worry about what others might think, I'd only think about what other kids would think. In the world of little kids, it might be a bit tricky. I have two little kids myself who associate wolves with the big bad wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf is usually not the friendliest animal in children's stories, so it's not their favorite animal, let's say. But I can easily imagine that they wouldn't think twice about a child named Wolf; they'd just accept it. My kids also know a Fos (Fox), and the 3-year-old found that a bit strange at first (that's an animal, and also a child? And also: is this really a nice fox? Because of a cartoon with a mean fox). But it became normal for them very quickly.
