Lesbian desire for a child with a sperm donor

Hi everyone,

We’re a lesbian couple hoping for a baby.
We’ve just had our first appointment with the gynecologist.
She did a vaginal ultrasound of my uterus and said it looks really good.
Now we still need to see a psychologist and a counselor. I’m a bit worried about the talk with the psychologist. What will she ask? What should I prepare for? In stressful situations, I tend to overthink and I’m afraid of coming across wrong or saying the wrong things... My partner is the same; she’s not exactly a chatterbox with strangers either... We really want a child and I’m quite scared that we won’t be approved. Also partly because of our age—I’m 26 and my partner is only 23. Even though we’re young, we’ve already achieved quite a bit in life (degrees completed, stable jobs, bought our own home). But I’m still afraid they’ll think we’re not capable enough...

On top of that, I have to undergo a few tests: a blood test, an ultrasound during my period, and a HyCoSy (HysterosalpingoFoamSonography). In short, this is a test to check if the fallopian tubes are open.
Once all that is approved, I can start with IUI (artificial insemination with donor sperm).

I’m also finding it hard to schedule everything around my work. I have to request at least one day off at least two months in advance. But then I obviously don’t know the exact date my period will start. Any tips on how to handle this with my employer?

All experiences you’d like to share are welcome.

I wouldn't worry too much about the psychologist. They'll probably ask you why you want kids so much, etc. You can also mention beforehand that you're a bit nervous for the session because you don't know what kind of questions to expect. And there's no lying about that If you just calmly answer her questions, it'll surely go well!

Regarding your employer (we're doing IUI and the hospital said your employer is required to give you time off for this. I don't know if it has to be mentioned under a specific heading), but this seems to apply to KID too. My employer isn't aware (I also find it a bit private and you don't exactly broadcast it from the rooftops). So far, the ultrasounds have fallen on my days off, so it worked out well. But otherwise, it would have been a missed opportunity for us, and hopefully better next month.

Or you could go to the dentist and then head to the hospital for KID. Or inform your employer.
