empty gestational sacs

Yesterday we had our first ultrasound. Two gestational sacs were visible (a twin pregnancy), but both were empty and no heartbeat was detected. The sonographer was very definite: this is a miscarriage.

However, around me I'm now hearing all sorts of stories where a heartbeat was found later on. Even a midwife friend mentioned that this conclusion seems quite hasty. I'm only 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant, and the situation could change every day. But my own midwife was already talking about a D&C (curettage) and told me not to hold out hope... She got her info from the definite sonographer, though, and hadn't seen it herself.

Has anyone here experienced such a clear miscarriage diagnosis, only to later find a beating heart?

I definitely want to wait a week and have another ultrasound. My hope is minimal, though.

6 weeks and 4 days is quite early for an ultrasound. The same applies if the implantation was later, meaning everything developed later too. It would indeed be a good idea to have another ultrasound after a week to make sure it's a miscarriage. Strength and I hope for you that there will still be hearts beating.

Had an ultrasound today and one of the babies had grown well and had a strong, beating heart! The other one was so behind that it’s becoming a vanishing twin. Maybe not even fertilized. Sad, but how happy we are with the good news!

Linda, it's so nice that one has grown well.

Maybe a strange question, but how are the others doing now?
