Negative test

I'm new to this forum but I have a question and maybe someone has experience with this. In May, I had a miscarriage. I ended up having a D&C. During the follow-up with the gynecologist in early June, she noticed that a follicle was about to rupture. Now my period is late, but the tests keep coming up negative. I'm at least a week overdue. I personally suspect I might be pregnant. According to my GP, I should wait another week to test because my hormones might be messed up after the D&C and I could end up getting a positive test anyway. But waiting feels so long! Does anyone else have experience with this?
