Which gyn??

This is one of the things I've been thinking about: which OB-GYN do I want to be under the care of later on?
Because of the C-section in my previous pregnancy, I have to give birth in the hospital with an OB-GYN.
The OB-GYN I was under the care of last time is still there. A really nice South African (a man, so), with whom we have positive experiences.

But there are also female OB-GYNs now, which I don't know yet.

So....... do I go for the known male OB-GYN or the unknown female OB-GYN??

Hi Gerda, can you actually choose? I’m at Bronovo in The Hague and I just get the OB/GYN who’s on duty at that time. I believe you definitely get whoever’s on call during labor.

At birth, it's indeed the person on duty, but earlier you could specify who you wanted to be under the care of.

Then I'd go for the one you have a positive experience with. I think that's really important.
    Good luck!

It's nice to have your check-ups with someone you feel comfortable with, but it can also be good to have seen multiple doctors because you never know who you'll end up delivering with. Are you getting a (planned) C-section this time too?

I had a planned C-section during my previous pregnancy and had a really nice/kind OB-GYN. Now I'm pregnant with the second one, and when I called the hospital to make an appointment, I found out that this lady no longer works at that hospital. That's a shame, but unfortunately so. I'd definitely want her again as my OB. I have my first appointment on Thursday, and then we'll see if I get a woman or a man. As long as I feel comfortable with him/her, that's what matters most.
I'm curious to know what you ultimately chose.

Since my son was born, quite a bit has changed here at the hospital too. Previously, there were 2 or 3 gynecologists working full-time, and you could choose who you wanted to be under their care.
Now, there are 4 gynecologists, 3 of whom are women working part-time, and you can no longer choose who you're under their care. I've already seen 3 of the 4 gynecologists, and so far, everything has been going well. No complaints.

Glad you feel good about it. That's really important!! Do you already know if you'll have another C-section or can you maybe just give birth this time?

I’m still assuming I can have a natural birth, but the chance of a C-section is higher after a previous C-section than it is "normally".
Our girl is in a good position and the previous births went quite quickly—9 to 10 hours for my daughter and 4 hours for my son, from the first contractions to birth. That’s actually favorable because, due to the scar, the labor shouldn’t last too long.

But now I have hypertension, and it depends on how that develops. If it can’t be controlled after a few weeks or if I go overdue, I can’t be induced (due to the scar) and it will likely be another C-section.

But anyway. In principle, it looks promising, and I’m still expecting a natural birth.

    Best, Gerda
