Maybe a second child

Oh, I really hope someone can help me. We have a son who is 1.5 years old and are now thinking about having a second child. And we've actually started trying. But I find it so difficult all of a sudden. Do I feel insecure? Am I doing the right thing? Do I really want this? But before this, every time I got my period, I was sad. So am I doing the right thing then?

Hi Daphne, we also started trying for a second baby right before the first one turned 1. There's exactly 1 year and 8 months between them. I think it's nice now that they're a bit older, but at first it felt like the tropenjaren. Now I'm pregnant with the fourth, and there will be exactly 1 year and 5 months between the fourth and the third. But now I have help from the two oldest What are your reasons for also hesitating about it?

Why I'm doubting. What's the ideal age? Will I love the second one just as much? Can I really handle it all?

What I can say from my experience is that you'll automatically love your second child just as much as your first.
I also felt guilty during the pregnancy with our second princess because my first was still so little and I was afraid that I was taking away from her early years by having a second one right away. But in the end, she also got tons of attention from my mom, and my dad did things with her regarding care.
And I did the same for the second one. So nobody felt shortchanged.
As for the ideal age gap,
that's very personal, but I found the pregnancy with the second one quite tough and heavy because you can't really explain to a 1-year-old that you need to lie down for a bit or that you're feeling a bit nauseous.
    That was a letdown.
Now our third girl is 1, and I got pregnant with the fourth when she was 9 months old.
    Also quite tough, I find.
But now I have lots of help from the oldest, who's 8, which makes a difference.
Those are things you might want to keep in mind.
This is how I've experienced it,
    and still do.
The age gap between the second and third, 5 years, might seem like a long time,
but it was much more peaceful.
