Stip, Thijs, or Tijn

Is "Stip" a cute name for a boy? The baby is almost here. We just don't know the name yet. We've thought long and hard about Stip. Otherwise, it would become a more common name.

Stip... Hmm, well, unique but I'd probably go with Tijn instead.

Tough choice! I think Stip is super cute and cheerful, but you really have to dare to go for it... Otherwise, my pick would be Tijn.

We also liked Stip, it felt cheerful and bright. A bit of a mix between Stijn and Jip. But we still don't know if we dare to go for it. So difficult.

In the poll, I went for the safe name Tijn.
But I love unique names, and that’s why Stip wouldn’t let me go.
I dove into my name book and yes, I came across: Stipe.
With an e at the end. Turns out it’s just a Frisian name.

Thanks. Where does Stipe come from and what does it mean?

I had to look it up, didn't remember which book it came from.
    But found it.

    The book says:
    Stipe, m
Fri. name. Sti- comes from Stind.
(Stind comes from Stendert, Sten = stone and hard = hard)
-pe comes from a name that starts with a b-. For example Burg (protection) or Bert (shining).
That's the text in the book.
So the meaning is something like shining stone or stone for protection. So quite a nice meaning.

You're welcome. Have you figured it out yet?

    No, still doubting. Sooooo difficult

I sometimes hear that people wait until after the birth and once they see the baby, they feel better about which name fits the baby. Some people even wait a few days after the birth to announce the name. Who knows, maybe that works for you?

Yeah, it's tough to choose names because it's so final.
