How long does ovulation last?

Just a quick question, maybe someone can help me.
Yesterday I had to go to the gynecologist for a follicle scan. I thought ovulation had already passed while I was on vacation, so I didn't expect much. Now he told me that my egg was already starting to grow at that moment (09:00 in the morning). He instructed me to definitely have sex that evening and also today. But does anyone know how long ovulation can last? Since he said it was already growing at that moment (there was already fluid in the egg), could it be that the egg actually ovulates today?

That's possible, but I'd ask that question to your OB-GYN next time you're there. They studied for it.
