Clearblue ovulation tests, did I get those right?

Hey everyone,

Hope you can help me out a bit. I've already done about 5 rounds of ovulation tests. I use the Clearblue ones, and usually I get a smiley face one evening and the two days following. I think that means my ovulation happens on that last day. The next day I get a negative test, and then we usually take a break (for a couple of days). Am I doing this right or is it actually wrong?

What I know about Clearblue tests is that you first get a blinking smiley around your ovulation and on the day your hormone levels are highest, you get a smiley. And that "non-blinking" smiley means your egg will release within 24 hours. But I haven't used them for years (I use the Action tests), but that's what I remember. Maybe someone else has additional info?? Usually, your egg releases around day 14 with a 28-day cycle. And having sex every other day seems better for your husband's swimmers. But whether that's old wives' tale or really true.....

    Hi bladira,
what a hassle those ovulation tests are! I also wasted 6 rounds of money on Clear Blue tests before switching to the Action ovu tests, and you'll never guess haha, I'm pregnant.
Now some info that might help you. I read that having sex 2 days before ovulation gives you the best chance of getting pregnant. That's 2 days before the actual ovulation, not the positive test (if you get a positive test, it can still take up to 24 hours for ovulation to actually happen). On average, the day before the positive test would be ideal, but the tricky part is you never know when that day is. So in my opinion, it all boils down to wasting money and hoping for luck. For us, it took 7 rounds, which we thought was way too long and very stressful. In the last round, we said, "let's just leave it, we're done with this." I also thought I'd get pregnant in December for Christmas, no way, that's not necessary. Haah, and that's exactly what happened. We weren't even trying anymore and got pregnant spontaneously, and of course, on the first day of Christmas. I wish you the same. Those tests are still just guessing and based on averages.
    Good luck, girl!

Thank you so much for your replies, everyone! Glad to hear it's not an exact science where I'm doing something wrong. Floydi, thanks for the reassurance—I'm now in week 7 too, and I've been having moments of despair here as well. That's why I'm looking for what I might be doing wrong. But reading your story is quite reassuring. Big congratulations on your Christmas baby!! :-)

Floyd, congratulations!! Beautiful Christmas baby :-)

Bladira, you can't do anything wrong. Just like Floyd said, it has a lot to do with very, very good luck. So be patient :-) but well, if you want to get pregnant, you'd rather have done it yesterday... I know it hahaha

Ladies, thank you for the congratulations. It's certainly no science, and I, just like you, desperately searched for something I could do to get pregnant, but nothing seemed to help while everyone around me seemed to get pregnant within a month. I hope you're feeling a bit reassured too and that you can try to let it go a bit (at least for one round). Who knows, it might help

And don't forget to keep the fun in sex At one point we had "scheduled sex" just to make sure we did it at the right times... doesn't that make it less romantic, hahaha

Thanks a lot!! Indeed, as you say, Floydi, it works perfectly for everyone the first time, so you get the feeling that you're doing something wrong. But I need to try to let go, at least not look for 'the mistake' anymore. Also, thank you, Chantieee. Indeed, it's hard to let go when the desire for a child is so strong, but I'll try!! :-)

My tip.... read the leaflet again carefully, because I think with Clear Blue it's actually that you should test in the morning.

Hi! I wonder why a Clearblue test is considered a waste of money. If you use it properly as indicated in the instructions and start trying anyway a few days before you'd normally expect your ovulation, you've done everything to guess the right moment. You know this very precisely now from the past months because you've done ovulation tests. So with that info from the past months thanks to the Clearblue test, you know roughly when your ovulation is... and I'd especially try to conceive as soon as possible after the smile? And with an Action test, you have to hope you guessed right because you never know exactly when the line is darkest... and thus when your ovulation is almost there. Good luck!

    Hey,

Yeah, I know roughly when my ovulation is, but lately my cycle hasn't been regular... So it's still a bit of a guess when I think my ovulation is coming. I sometimes feel like we're going at it too much leading up to ovulation (every day, 5 or 6 days beforehand), and maybe that's not so great. So now I'm hoping to time it just before ovulation and maybe a bit more after the smileys,... Besides, it should still be a bit spontaneous, of course...
The leaflet says in the morning, but when you think you've found your ovulation, you can also test multiple times a day. I've often noticed that I test negative in the morning and positive in the evening, then positive both morning and evening for two days, and then negative on the third morning... I just thought, it's negative so ovulation must have passed, but maybe I'm wrong here?
Thanks in advance for your help! :-)

Good evening, I had a question.
I've been using Clear Blue digital ovulation tests since this month. I tested yesterday morning and it was negative, then tested again this morning and it showed a blinking smiley, and tonight it was negative again. Can someone tell me how that's possible?
    Greetings
