Blood test negative

Quick question:
Last Thursday I had my blood drawn, and it came back negative. I was supposed to start my period last Friday, but today I still haven’t gotten it.
The reason they tested one day before my expected period was because of medication—I’m not allowed to take it if I might be pregnant. This was decided by my doctor.
We’ve been trying for over a year now for our third baby through a fertility specialist, and normally my period comes 4 days early. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Could the test have been done too early? Or is there something else going on? I’m getting a bit anxious because I have sore breasts and need to pee a lot, but I also get those symptoms before my period.

I’d take a pregnancy test. Maybe there wasn’t enough pregnancy hormone in it? -
