Mother-in-law from hell
AnonymousGuest ·
Hey ladies,
I'm so irritated and I need to get it off my chest, so I hope you can give me some advice. I'd really like to just throw everything at my husband, but that won't make things better.
Many of us deal with this, but I really have a terrible mother-in-law. My husband is Moroccan and I'm half Dutch and half Turkish. From the moment my husband told his mother he wanted to marry me, it started... I wasn't Moroccan, what was he doing with me blah blah blah... After we'd been married for a year, my mother-in-law was even telling people at my brother-in-law's wedding that she was looking for another wife for him because what was he doing with me? She only let him marry me so he could easily divorce me later, and he'd miss the Moroccan food and all that, so he wouldn't like me anyway. Besides, her son doesn't even like Moroccan food, and I've learned to cook it, but whatever..
Then I got pregnant with our first son, which was scandalous. She wasn't happy at all. Meanwhile, she's made the life of my brother-in-law's wife a living hell, even though she turned out to be incurably ill 3 months after the wedding. My mother-in-law claimed she had hidden her cancer to marry him...
Now I'm pregnant with our second son. My mother isn't Muslim. Yesterday I stayed home while my husband and son went to eat at my mother-in-law's. Then my mother-in-law started talking about my mother. That she's not allowed into our house according to "her Islam" and that she can't eat with us blah blah. Islam doesn't say any of that at all, but this is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. How dare she talk about my mother like that, especially based on lies she links to Islam. She said this to my sister-in-law when my husband was out for a bit.
My son is crazy about my mother and hates my mother-in-law. He won't give her kisses, and if she keeps it up, he hits her
obviously this isn't allowed, but secretly I enjoy it because she didn't want him when he was in my belly, and now he's supposed to be crazy about her? I call that karma. He runs to my mother, and he already calls her oma, he's only a year and a half old.
So right now, I'd really like to tell my husband that I no longer want to go with him to his parents' house like I used to do occasionally. I'm completely done with his mother. But I can't say it without causing problems for my sister-in-law. She's already had her fair share. It probably won't matter to her what my mother-in-law thinks, but I don't want problems between her and her husband. My mother-in-law would only enjoy that, because she'd prefer her sons to divorce their wives and come back to her; she actually said that, unfortunately..
Sorry for the long story. Anyone with a similar situation or tips on how to handle this?
