Experiences with getting pregnant with the first child

Hi everyone,

My partner and I have decided to try for a baby since January. Super exciting! I stopped the pill at the beginning of January. I'd been on it since I was 14. Stopped neatly during the pill-free week. My cycle has been regular over the past two months (30 days). First month I had headaches, stomach pain, and tender breasts. Second month just stomach pain. How did it go for you all? And how long did it take before the test was positive? I'm really curious to hear your stories

Love,

Hey! It's so nice and super exciting that you've decided to have a baby. That feeling is great too, right!
I had withdrawal symptoms during the first 2 months. Headaches, stomach aches, and so much more haha
Unfortunately, I'm already in round 7, so it's been going on for a while.. Anyway, wishing you lots of success and hoping you'll get a positive test soon!

Hi! It's so nice that you're joining in on the forum. My boyfriend and I decided back in November to try for our first baby, but we had to wait for a safe timeframe first (he had been in a Zika-affected area). Those were a few long months, because once we finally decided to go for it, we naturally wanted to get started as soon as possible!

In early February we could finally try, and we were incredibly lucky—it was a hit on the very first attempt. So now I'm five weeks pregnant! I do notice that it's still taking a while to happen, because I had assumed it would take a few rounds!

By the way, I hadn't been on the pill for a while already, so I don't know anything about coming off it. And my cycles were somewhat irregular: 24–33 days (usually 29–30). But that didn't hinder anything. I hope you get a positive test soon, and don't forget to enjoy the incredibly special process of trying to conceive together until then

    Hi Lilly,
It's all so exciting. I can't wait. They say you shouldn't get too worked up about it, which is really hard! I also have a lovely friend who's really into it haha, which is nice of course! I think I'm also dealing with the "unpeeling" phase, ugh, it's enough to drive you crazy. We'll just have to wait until the end of the month again. I hope you get a positive test soon! Wishing you lots of success, and I'd love to hear how things are going for you.

It's almost impossible not to be obsessed with it! At least for me, haha With the ovulation tests, you're already focused on it, but it gives me a more relaxed feeling...
Why can't everyone just get pregnant right away? Mother nature, you know...
    I'll definitely keep you updated!

Loes, how long did you wait after he returned from the Zika area?
  7. Loes #8

    @ MM
We stuck to the 2-month guideline recommended by the RIVM. We’re assuming it’s fine then, but I’ll probably mention it again later on.

Thanks, Loes. When I was getting my vaccinations, they told me that if I wanted to get pregnant within the year, I should call RIVM for info. But I couldn't find that anywhere, and I also only saw the 2-month mark. I'll assume that's fine.

We were 9 months in and about as many rounds. I had a short cycle and only 4 days of brown discharge. I was also on the pill for over 10 years and had been taking it continuously in the last few years. After 8 months, my cycle got longer and then it was smooth sailing. Maybe try coming off the pill?

    Hi!
At the end of September, we decided to stop taking the pill and start trying. After 13 years on the pill, I also had some headaches and stomach pain in the first month, but that’s gone now.
My cycle is regular and I don’t have much trouble when I’m on my period. I’m now in round 6 and so far no positive test...we’ll see ;-)

    Hi everyone,
I got my period on March 1st, and have had a 30-day cycle for 2 months now.
We're currently on our 3rd round. For the past few days I've been experiencing:
A tingling feeling in my belly (feels a bit like muscle soreness)
    Occasional sharp stabs
Also dealing with watery discharge, a bit white
Had severe headaches for 2 days
    Lower back pain
    Bloating
My ovulation was on March 17th, so we've been busy with chores before and on ovulation day. I should get my period again on April 1st. Could I be pregnant? Or could my ovulation have happened earlier? I really feel different than usual. What are your experiences/symptoms?
    Love,

I don't have a positive pregnancy test in my hands yet, so unfortunately, I can't help you with that...

Stopped the pill in April to get my cycle back to normal, and got a regular 25-28 day cycle right away. Really nice because that means the break days aren't so long. Didn't have sex on fertile days until October, and from late October onwards we did, and started using ovulation tests. After 5 rounds (one of which wasn't quite right timing-wise), I'm pregnant. I already had an appointment scheduled at the hospital due to a previous chlamydia infection, but that's now cancelled. It's still early, but the thought that it can happen gives me peace of mind! As for symptoms, around the time of my expected period I had sore breasts, a lot of white discharge, and sometimes mild headaches. Otherwise, not much – I didn't feel anything weird, which was different from before when it turned out I wasn't pregnant. After the expected date, I've been tired, had sore breasts, discharge, hunger when waking up (which I didn't have before), gurgling intestines, and urinating more often. All these symptoms are mild, and I'm not bothered by them at all. Mostly just overjoyed! Sending love to those who are still trying, stay positive and patient

    @Baby123

Hard to say; it's pretty early just one day after ovulation, especially since you said you've had them for a few days already. Then I'd think more of symptoms related to ovulation. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't be pregnant by now :-) How are your 'symptoms' doing now?
I personally felt something for the first time 1.5 weeks after ovulation; at that time I had 2-3 days of mild cramps, which was probably implantation. On the day of my missed period I was nauseous for the first time, but otherwise all the complaints only came later!
