working full-time and a 6-month-old baby?

Hi everyone,

I'd really like to get your opinions. Six months ago we had a beautiful son, but unfortunately, I lost my job right around the time of the birth, so I had to look for a new job after giving birth. Today, I was offered a great job—feel free to call it my dream job. The only downside is that it's a full-time position.

This would mean I'd be with Joost, our son, for 2 days (Sunday and Monday), and then work from Tuesday to Saturday, but only during the day with no irregular hours. My husband would be home on Saturdays and Sundays. Joost would go to a nanny 1 day a week, 2 days at grandma's, and grandma would come to our house 1 day a week. Later on, if it really doesn't work out, there's the option to reduce my hours to 32. What do you all think about this? I always get the feeling that I'll have to constantly defend myself later on when I say I'm working full-time. It is a once-in-a-lifetime job, and I don't have to start before 10 am. Would love to hear your thoughts on this! Thanks in advance!

If you enjoy the job, just go for it. It's your life, and there are plenty of moms who work full-time. I don't understand why some people always feel the need to give unsolicited opinions about others. They say speaking is silver and silence is golden for a reason. And first remove the log from your own eye before you try to remove the splinter from someone else's.

I agree with Anoniem. If you really want to, I’d definitely do it. I also think your childcare plan is really well organized. It’s great that grandma can help out so much. From experience, I can tell you that having grandma as a babysitter is fun for both grandma and the child. So don’t overthink what others might think—just do what you want!

I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum, oops!
But your responses are so sweet and really made my day. Today I officially said yes to the job and I'm really looking forward to it. I do have a lot of admiration for moms who stay home full-time, but I don't feel completely happy that way. Joost will be going to a lovely childcare provider (we know them) for one day a week, and one grandma will come over to babysit on Wednesdays, while the other grandma covers the other two days. She's crazy about both grandmas, so it'll surely work out well. My new employer also mentioned that if it doesn't work out or feels like too much, I can always let them know. From August onwards, we'll see if we can move to a 4-day schedule, once the initial busy period is over and I'm properly settled in. Thanks for your responses!
