Disappointment

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on Brabbels. I'm Tess, 29 years old, and since October I've been trying to conceive. It hasn't been that long, but I'm finding it harder and harder to cope with the disappointment each month. Especially because you can't talk about it so much with people around you. I hope you all have some tips on how you deal with the disappointment and what kind of distractions you find in the meantime?

I tried to keep my mind off it as much as possible. Only when I thought, "Gosh, I think I'm overdue," did I go get a test. I was busy with work and doing fun things with my husband. If needed, set a reminder in your calendar for when you've passed a year to make an appointment with your GP for a check-up. That way, you'll have something to fall back on for peace of mind.

I’d actually talk it over with your close ones—it really saves a lot of stress!!
Personally, I never really get the secrecy around trying to conceive; it’s so nice to be able to share your feelings with people who matter to you. (Grand)parents, siblings, best friends...

Wishing you lots of success and hopefully it’ll happen soon!

I wasn't being secretive about it either. But for me, it didn't help to keep thinking about it all the time. Everyone has to do what works for them.

That makes sense, Amélie! But the tricky part is that you can't really control it! You can take a few things into account (healthy lifestyle, the right timing and method for sex, etc.), but with healthy people, the rest is just pure luck...
