brown period

Hi,
I have a cycle of about 28 to 30 days. Often my period starts with 2 to 3 days of brown spotting, and then it turns into red flow. From the red flow, I only start counting the cycle.
Last Sunday, on day 24, the brown spotting started and continued until Thursday, day 28. Every day it was about the size of a small pad. On Tuesday night, I had one large drop of red blood in between. Today, day 29, I no longer have any spotting at all.
I don't have any other symptoms like nausea, sore breasts, etc. I do have trouble falling asleep, but I often have periods where I don't sleep well, so that's not new for me either. So I don't feel like I'm pregnant, but is it normal to only have brown spotting? For peace of mind, I'll test first thing tomorrow morning, you never know
I'm curious about your experiences.

I don't really see brown blood as a period since it's often old blood that's still leaving the uterus. It could be implantation bleeding, but it could also be a sign that your real period is on its way. Taking a test wouldn't be a bad idea at all

You should count your period from the day you start bleeding, whether it's brown or bright red.

    Hi Greetje,

After stopping the pill until I got pregnant, I had almost nothing but brown discharge in almost every cycle for about 9 months. It lasted around 4 days and then it was over.

That didn't feel great, especially with the short cycle, it made me a bit unsure. But it did work out in the end!

I can imagine that when you have less blood, gravity helps less, so it takes longer for the blood to reach the exit and old blood turns brown.

Now I'm a bit longer and heavier and redder during my period.

Took the test this morning and it's positive!! I can't quite believe it because I was so sure it would be negative. Now I'm anxiously waiting for my boyfriend to come home haha
