Getting pregnant after removing the Mirena IUD

Good afternoon

I need some advice. I haven't had a period for the last 8 years. After discussing with my doctor, I took the pill continuously for 3 years (because my symptoms were so extreme that I couldn't function for 2 weeks out of the month). After that, I switched to the Mirena IUD, which I had for 5 years. So, it's been 8 years now.

Since my partner and I want a child, I had the IUD removed on January 16.

On January 24, I had a very light "bleeding" for 2 to 3 days. Before that, there was dark brown discharge.

For the past week, I've had a lot of symptoms that point to pregnancy:
- Spontaneous nausea (this goes away after I eat)
- Very hungry and craving strange things
- Mood swings (though I usually have these more often anyway)
- Urinating a lot
- Fatigue
- Had a bladder infection (treated with antibiotics)
- For the past 2 days, "sensitive breasts" in the sense that I can't stand wearing a bra or going without one at night; I have to wear a sports bra. It feels unpleasant when something brushes against my nipple.

Since I have no idea what my cycle is like anymore, I've actually been testing every Saturday. So far, everything has been negative. Which is probably quite normal, I guess. It seems very unlikely that I'm already pregnant so soon, but it still makes me insecure because I have these symptoms. Have you guys had these symptoms after having the IUD removed? Maybe that's the cause?

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? When did you (test positive)?

Please share your advice! x

Never had an IUD, but I know people can have false pregnancies or it can take a while to get a positive test.

I've removed it twice for the same symptoms. You can get pregnant, but I think your body needs to adjust without hormones for a while.

    Thanks for your replies.
I’ve realized that these are indeed unpleasant “side effects” of having the Mirena removed.
34 days after experiencing brown discharge, I got my period (I assume the brown discharge was also a period). I no longer have any weird symptoms, and we’re now officially on our first round. Really exciting.. but we’re waiting patiently

I've got that nausea now too. Got my period 5 days after the removal. Now waiting until March 25th????

Exciting! I have to wait until March 31st to test this time.
    Good luck x
