Esmée/Esmee or Mona

Hi there,

Our first baby is going to be a girl, and we're torn between two names (Esmée/Esmee or Mona), making it an incredibly tough choice. I'd love to hear what others think, so here goes

With "Esmée/Esmee," our little girl will always have to specify whether she uses the accent or not. I'm thinking, for example, about later when she has to provide her email address, and how that might cause confusion if someone enters it incorrectly.

With "Mona," I'm worried she might get teased with things like "Where's Lisa?" or even jokes about Mona Lisa...

What do you all think?
Thanks!

    Esmée for sure!!

My name is Mona. I was never bullied anymore. If I had to choose between those two names, I'd go for Esmee.

    I’d go for Esmee.
I think people are more likely to spell Esmee without an accent.

Esmee or Esmée, but that's because I (as a Dutch person, so maybe it's different for you guys) associate it with Mona-toetjes and Lieve Mona.

Esmee, just write it how you say it!

    Mona.... That makes you happy!
    Esmee then

Ohhh, I just looked up Mona's ad. Luckily, this isn't (that) well-known here in Belgium!
So far, the preference is also for 'Esmée/Esmee', with the big wish that the second baby will be a girl too, so we can name her 'Mona'!

I think Mona is quite pretty. It sounds softer than Esmee.

I think Mona is really beautiful...

Mona is a tough girl's name and doesn't come up often. Unique, then.
    Esmee is my personal favorite.

Haha, it’s gonna be tough! I’m a lifelong ditherer, maybe we’ll only decide once she’s born and we see a Mona or an Esmee in her

I've said this before to someone else, but it really depends on what kind of vibe you want for your baby's name.
If you want her name to sound tough, go for Esmee.
If you prefer a softer feel, I'd choose Mona
Maybe that'll help you decide for yourself.

My daughter's name is Esmee, so I'm going with that name.

I think Mona is really beautiful, and the association with the Mona Lisa seems more like an honor than a nuisance to me. I'd write Esmee without the accent, because it doesn't add anything to the pronunciation.

    @Madelene:
Hey, when we talk about it, it's actually the other way around! Since I became aware of her kicking, I've noticed she's quite feisty (visible and palpable from the outside!) and we thought Mona would fit better because Esmee feels more gentle and soft to us

And indeed Agnes, that accent doesn't really add anything, so that's clear for me already

We keep going back and forth on this while we're already talking to my belly like 'baby Esmee'.
And then my partner adds 'or Mona' later on =' He just keeps feeding the eternal doubter in me

If you're already calling her Esmee, then that's just her name! I don't think you need to doubt anymore!

I think Esmee is just as spicy as Mona, I promise!
