Hi everyone,

I'm pregnant with our second child, and my sister and my mother-in-law are going to be godmothers.

For our first child, my mom was the godmother and my father-in-law was the godfather. They're just called 'meme' and 'opa' since they're also the grandparents.

My mother-in-law is already called 'oma' by my son, and our second child will call her that too (even though she's the godmother).

For my sister, though, we want a different title to distinguish her from my mom (so not 'meme', and also from my husband's sister, who remains just 'tante'. Basically, my sister is already just an aunt to my oldest, but by choosing her as godmother, she becomes a bit more special. So we don't want to go with 'meme', 'godmother', or 'aunt'.

My sister is 23, so we're looking for a young, hip form of address.

Any ideas? What names do you use for a godmother who isn't a grandmother?

I never addressed my own godfather and godmother with those titles, just as Uncle (first name) and Aunt (first name). In my family, it's also not common for grandparents to become godparents; they're already grandparents. I'd just use "godmother" as a title if they care that much, or simply "Aunt." Or ask your sister what she wants.

    Hey,
I became a godmother very early on, my godchild calls me "Mettie."
