Unpack

Hi hi,
I was supposed to start my new pill pack on January 12th, but we decided to go for a baby!
We just started right away and aren’t using ovulation tests or anything like that because we want to try it the natural way first.
If it takes a while, we think those kinds of things will come naturally.

Now, I know my cycles used to be 28-30 days before I was on the pill, but I obviously don’t know how things are now.
Since last weekend (so exactly 2 weeks before my period if I stick to a 28-day cycle), I’ve been feeling some rumbling and sharp twinges in my stomach, I’ve had migraines, and my nipples are super sensitive.
So I’m wondering if this is from coming off the pill or possibly from ovulation?
I did have an ovulation-like feeling, actually.
And does anyone have experience with coming off the pill and getting pregnant?
How did you feel the difference between coming off the pill and being pregnant?
Of course, I’m not pregnant yet, I’m at the beginning of the third week of my cycle (if it’s correct), but I’m just curious!

Best, Lisan

Stopping the pill can happen quickly, meaning you get your old cycle back right away. But it can also take a long time, where you have no period or very irregular periods for a long time. You can only really say something about that after you've had your period a few times. For me, it took half a year before I even had a period, and then I was irregular for a few more years until I sought help from the midwife. After my pregnancy, my cycle was regular again overnight, just like before the pill. But if I take my little sister as an example, she was regular again much faster and got pregnant without any help. My mother-in-law was even pregnant right after stopping the pill. So it can go either way.

Hey! It's great that you've taken the step! Wishing you lots of success!

I took my last pill in July. Over the past 3 months, I've been pretty regular. I have a 30-day cycle.
Now we're on round 6 I've been using ovulation tests for 2 months already. It gives me a sense of certainty and makes me feel much calmer.

For me, it took a good year before I got a regular cycle after stopping the pill. Before using the pill, I already had irregular and long cycles, but I quickly went on the pill then, so I'm curious how it'll go after giving birth.
I'd try not to think too much about it or dwell on it. Although that's super hard, and I could've killed anyone who told me that (we had to wait a really long time, etc.). Your body is probably messed up right now anyway, and you'll probably feel things differently than usual.
    Anyway, good luck!!

    Thanks for your replies!
I definitely don’t assume it’ll work right away, but I find it really exciting!
And you’re right, Elke—if you’re too focused on it, you notice every little thing, and I’m definitely trying not to do that.

How do you handle testing? Do you just wait for your period and then test if you’re overdue?

I’d definitely wait until your NED.
It saves you a lot of testing and disappointment
When you test for NED and it’s negative, you might think hmm, maybe tested too early?

With a positive test, something could still go wrong and you might still get your period.
This can also happen after your NED, but you’ll have a bit more certainty.
I tested 2 months too early and was sooooo disappointed.. then waited and kept getting my period (Unfortunately!)
