sugar test

Hi, I was hoping to get an answer to my question here. Lately I've been feeling a bit weak (shaky arms). I was told right away that it was probably due to my blood sugar levels. I was told that pregnant women should have a sugar test to check this, but now I'm already 24 weeks pregnant and my OB-GYN has never mentioned it. Is this test standard for everyone, and should I ask my OB-GYN about it? Thanks in advance

Hi Fatima, this test isn't standard and is mainly done if your baby is too big.
It's good that you take some time with your OB-GYN to explore where the soft feeling might be coming from. It could also be anemia.

Hi Yvonna, thanks for the reply. I have my next appointment on 23/08 and will definitely discuss it then. Thanks!

Good idea! If you feel like it's going to get worse, I wouldn't wait 10 days. You don't want to fall or spill a hot cup of tea on yourself or something like that.

    hey fatima
i think it depends from hospital to hospital
at our hospital it's standard at 27 weeks
just as a precaution. i had to do this test too and our baby was not too big at all for the number of weeks i was pregnant. he was even right on schedule.
in the end he was born weighing 3490 grams and 51 cm long.
and that with gestational diabetes. i'd just ask your gynecologist about it. and if you're really worried about feeling less movement you can always call your gynecologist.

At my hospital, this is also standard practice, just like with Liena. Everything here is in perfect order, both with my values and the baby's. The baby is right on average. Indeed, just discuss it with your OB-GYN. The sugar test doesn't mean much, and then you might know more!

Here in Roeselare, they also do that test as standard around 30 weeks.
It can't hurt to give them a call.

For me, they did it as standard for women with overweight, including me. You're more prone to gestational diabetes.

    Good luck!

    hey Nynke
I think it's pretty silly that they do it as a standard for women with overweight. Women without overweight are just as susceptible to gestational diabetes. They usually think that we women with a bit of extra weight don't do anything else but sit in front of the candy cupboard all day long. And because of that, we'll have a huge baby. Then they also immediately start with a diet, so we have to lose weight too, and the diet you get isn't even for a pregnant woman but just a standard diet. :s

    hi Liena,
yes I wasn't happy about it either but well everything has to follow the protocol and they change it all the time anyway. but I just moved to a different region. so I'm really curious how they are here. at the CB they're real nitpickers in my opinion. my son was too fat but when I look at him I see a lovely three-year-old boy who already has a sixpack. so I don't know where they get that from. they said he was a kilo overweight.

did you have to diet? that's absolutely not allowed when you're pregnant! healthcare has really gone crazy.

    love, Nynke

    hey nynke
i think they always have something to criticize about kids or parenting. they don't even know what to say anymore because, indeed, everything changes every time. there are so many things that are currently forbidden because they're too dangerous for kids or not hygienic enough, while we grew up like that i also think it's ridiculous when they tell you the oldest is too heavy. what's 1 kilo extra? my parents didn't have much money back then but they still bought everything from zwitsal. when cb's mom came home she told me my parents had to throw everything away because zwitsal was the worst product ever
well, i'm still totally into it, i love that scent so much haha. i also still use mustela which you can only get at the pharmacy here but it smells super nice too.
by the way, i didn't have to diet to lose weight during my pregnancy but to keep my blood sugar stable. you're not allowed to eat many carbs anymore because they raise your blood sugar. and yes, sugar is also out, only sweeteners are allowed. so you lose weight automatically whether you want to or not. the diet is really tailored for someone with diabetes but not for someone with gestational diabetes. because certain things you're allowed to eat according to the diet are actually not good when pregnant like coffee, tea and cola light
    greetings liena x
