Dex? Similar names?

Hi everyone!
What do you think of the name Dex?
We’re looking for a tough-sounding name (for a boy).
We don’t like unisex names.
Do you have any suggestions?
We also had these names on our list:
James (I thought it was too American)
Lucas (too common)
Dax (my partner didn’t find it as nice)
Any ideas?
It can be a bit unusual, but not too much!

I personally find Dex/Dax less appealing... For me, there's something off about those names, but tastes differ, of course!
Lucas is indeed very common. I really like James!
What do you think of Lex? I find it much nicer than Dex. Or maybe Lux if you're looking for something more unique. I also think Max is really nice, but it's very common in the Netherlands (not sure where you're from). -

Nice name, Dex! I know someone called that, and I also know a Lex. Both are really nice. -
