Choice for a hospital

Hi ladies,
I'm currently working on a research project for my studies and I'm curious about how a pregnant woman's decision-making process works.
What made you choose a specific hospital?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Glennvk, I'm not pregnant yet, but the hospital is pretty much decided. My partner really wants me to give birth at the hospital because there are doctors nearby in case something goes wrong. We don't argue much, but if something does come up, we always go to the same hospital. This hospital is well-known to us, which is why we'd choose it for a possible birth. I also always pick a health insurance plan that includes this hospital. Hope that gives you enough info.

I can choose between two hospitals in my hometown, both of which have good ratings. One is a university medical center, and the other is independent. I went with the independent one because there's really such a nice atmosphere there. It feels like a village, even though it's a big hospital. All the staff are super kind and friendly, and they'll always do their best to meet your wishes. My boyfriend also works at that hospital, so we know it better and I really feel at home there.

That's actually the main reason I chose that hospital. I feel safe and relaxed there, which is really nice. My first birth was also very relaxed there (well, as far as the hospital goes—giving birth is still giving birth). Now I'm waiting to see when baby number 2 will show up on their own, or if I'll need an induction.

I have 5 kids and have given birth at home twice and in the hospital three times, but back then I had no choice due to premature births. Honestly, I found giving birth at home the most comfortable—just being in your own environment, you don't have to endure terrible contractions and then drive to the hospital, you can just do whatever you want, and afterwards, you can just relax in your own bed. I'm now 9 weeks pregnant with the 6th, and I think I have little or no choice now either. I'm 44 and will be almost 45 by the time I give birth, so I'm not sure if giving birth at home would be wise given the higher risk of complications.
