What to do about tearing?

ZoeGuest ·
I'm 34 weeks pregnant now, so the birth is getting pretty close. I'm not scared of the pain of contractions etc., but I'm absolutely terrified of tearing while pushing. Does anyone have tips on perineal massage, breathing exercises, or anything else that might help me feel less scared about this?

Oh, this was supposed to be on the childbirth forum. Can this still be changed?

    Hi Zoe,
I can totally imagine that. During my first pregnancy, I was really dreading it too. But I can reassure you in this regard—I hope so. The midwife or gynecologist really keeps an eye on things and will do an episiotomy if necessary.
Now that sounds pretty intense and painful, but I can assure you it’s not. They do the episiotomy during a contraction, and you don’t feel anything—I’m speaking from experience.

    Wishing you all the best!

There's Weleda massage oil for massaging the perineum, but honestly, I wouldn't know where to start to do it properly.
I've asked Zoë the same question already, all tips are welcome indeed.
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one worrying about this...
