Have the striae treated?

Hi there,

I'm now 2 days past 38 weeks and my stretch marks have, to put it mildly, gotten REALLY bad. They're really spreading everywhere. Every day they get wider, up to the point of bleeding, and a few more appear.

I KNOW that I'll get something beautiful in return, our little boy. Everyone soothes me when I dare to complain about it, and I completely agree.

But I still don't see myself ever feeling confident again with my belly full of stripes... Now I know that these will stay forever anyway, but after some research I found a few pages about laser treatment for stretch marks. That would tighten them up a bit and make them less visible.

Is it true or just pure quackery? Has anyone done this and achieved any results?

Apparently, you need multiple sessions and one session is already relatively expensive. If it doesn't work out, I won't start and will just have to learn to live with them .

After a while, they'll naturally become lighter since there's no more pressure on them. I don't know if they'll laser them to make them even less visible.

They do indeed get lighter on their own, and a bit of sun does wonders!

Yeah, but apparently it can sometimes take years for that to lighten up..
And I’ve read that sun exposure often helps with this, but also often the opposite. Depends on your skin type I guess? Ah well, we’ll see how it goes
    Thanks for the replies!

Mine got light around a year old, you can still see them but barely, and I’ve got quite a few too.

That puts my mind at ease! I thought only the moms who had little to say about it were the ones who said you could barely see it anymore. But if it's like that, I'll probably skip that treatment Thanks for the reply!

I'm going to disappoint you then, I've been covered in stretch marks for 12 years. I was just about to look into having them lasered off by a dermatologist when I found out I'm pregnant. I'm 29 now and really unhappy with my body. My husband doesn't mind, he's used to it by now, but I find myself disgusting.

I'm sorry to disappoint you too. I got a lot of stretch marks with my first two. They've faded a bit, but I'll never wear a bikini again. I'm fine wearing a tank top and I've made peace with my belly. But because of the stretch marks (from stretching), my belly will never be firm again. So it's either accept it or do something about it, but I don't know if laser treatment works. I've accepted myself and see them as the drawings of my first two kids (the third one, surprisingly, didn't add any more stretch marks...)

Until it's bleeding? Are you scratching them open?

You could try using some scar cream after that..
