Friend gave birth earlier. Same name?

What if a friend gives birth earlier and you think she has the same name?
Do you share this beforehand (or do you share something about the name, like a first letter or something) or do you wait and see?

How much earlier should she give birth?
I’d wait and see, I think.

You could always voice your concerns about being afraid to have the same name. But is the expected gender already known and the same for both of you in this situation? Otherwise, I’d just wait and see.

She's coming 2 months early. We don't know what it'll be yet. They do.
We think we're expecting the same gender.
I'd also like to wait and see, but what if it is?
Should I then say, "the third letter of our name is a W, is that also the case for you?"

You can always try, but I'd add why you're asking.

My sister is due a few weeks after us. We already know what it is, she doesn’t.
So if they’re expecting the same gender, we’re in the same situation. We want to keep the name secret until the baby is born.

    @ Luutje

Would you mind revealing just one letter to your sister if she asked?
I understand that you don't want to share the name.

We'll indeed have to come up with something so we don't end up with the same name.
But there's also a chance she's expecting a young one, of course

I’d just come up with a name A (in case the name isn’t the same) and a name B (in case it is). You’ll figure it out after she gives birth. Then, hopefully, you’ll still have 2 months to get used to name B.

We were in the same situation and didn't wait for it. Ask whether the name starts with a vowel/consonant or go by the number of syllables, and you'll get quite far already!

My girlfriend and I have compared names so we wouldn't accidentally pick the same one.
