Jonas??

Hi,

I'm heavily pregnant with our third little miracle.

The name we have in mind is Jonas, but friends of ours named their son Jonathan, with the nickname Jonah. Can we still call our son Jonas? Or would that be copying?

We both really like Jonas. It also fits well with our daughters' names, Pip and Lieve. Besides, we don't have a second option, only Jelle, but I really think that name is much less beautiful (it's a namesake, would be the third name). But now we're doubting it again. What should we do?

Jonas Gideon Jelle
or
Jelle Gideon

It also plays a role that our daughters have three names, and we like the idea of our son having three as well. So maybe Jelle Jonas Gideon??

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Love from a heavily pregnant mom

I think Jonas is nicer than Jelle. It does kind of sound like Jonah, though. I don’t see it as copying right away, but I’m not sure if your friends will take it well, of course. Tricky.

Nice name, Jonas! If this is your name, I'd definitely go for it. It's not exactly the same as your friends' either. Jonah and Jonas, nice, right? If they become buddies

We’re probably also going to name our baby Jonas if it’s a boy Such a beautiful name . I don’t see it as copying. Just pick the name you think is the most beautiful! I’d go for Jonas Gideon Jelle. But I think the order Jonas Jelle Gideon is more beautiful.

I think Jonas is super cute and fits the Jonah situation really well!

My son is named Jonas. The choice was made quickly and I haven't had a single minute of regret. Three years after his birth, an acquaintance (not close back then, but now we are) had a little girl named Jona. Now we sometimes have to be clear when we say the name of one of the two. It's no problem for anyone, and the kids think it's fun that their names differ by just one letter. I think you've already made your choice long ago! I'd say go for it....

Hi! For me, it would depend on how close you are with Jonah's parents. If you're really good friends, I wouldn't go for Jonas. I wouldn't appreciate it myself if my best friends chose a name that sounds so much like ours.

If they're more distant from you, then it could work!

You could also go for the name Joas. It does sound quite similar to Jonas, but less like Jonah. Although I think Jonas and Jonah can work together.

Jonas was also on our list! Such a beautiful name! It doesn't fit as well with our last name, so we ended up choosing a different first choice. If it's really your name, I'd still go for it.
We've had our girl's name for a long time now, friends have now chosen the same name, different spelling, but we're still sticking with the name (due in 3 weeks, not going to switch anymore, it's truly become our name!)

Thanks for all your good advice. We've decided that the little one will be named Jonas. I'll let you know when he's born
