Pregnant despite the pill

Hi!
Just a weird question.
I often have irregular periods, even though I’m on the pill.
I’ve been on the pill for about 2.5 years now and have missed my period 4 times (not consecutively, just randomly here and there).
I find that really strange. The first and second times, I went into a huge stress spiral and threw a ton of pregnancy tests at it.
Now it doesn’t even surprise me anymore, but normally I’d have a pretty heavy period the month before, and this time it was only 2 days of light bleeding, and now nothing.
I’m starting to think something might be going on.

Has anyone become pregnant while on the pill? If so, how did you find out?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I found out because I suddenly didn't get my period during the break week, and I remembered that the month before, I had a much lighter and shorter period, just like you.
I also felt different than usual.
Fortunately, we're very happy about it now.
    Do you think you're pregnant?

    Love, Lotte

    Hi Lotte,

    Thanks for your reply!
I don't know if I'm pregnant, I've missed my period during the placebo week more than once before, so I don't just buy a test anymore.
Looking back at this month, I do notice some 'things', I've had a craving for savory food for weeks now, my hair seems to get greasy faster, and last week I could really cry for no reason.
Seems to have gained a bit of weight too, but I've also been eating big meals.
I've been sick for the past two days, but don't think that's related.
And indeed, a noticeably short period last month, and this month nothing at all, not even any cramps.

I'll only test when I feel things that are clearly unfamiliar to me, so right now I'm just asking for experiences????

    Love, Renske

    Hi,

I don't think those are necessarily pregnancy symptoms, but it varies from person to person, and they are pretty noticeable things.
Crying for no reason seems the most striking to me, but that could also be due to the time of the month, even if you're not on your period.
It's probably best to wait a bit to see if you really start noticing things and then take a test; that's the only way to get clarity.
In the meantime, it's always nice to read about the experiences of people who have gone through it (or are going through it); I used to spend ages browsing the internet when I found out I was pregnant

I also got pregnant while on the pill. I used to skip my period sometimes, but never twice in a row like I did this time, so it happened... In the past, I had an Implanon, which sometimes caused me to skip a period once.

I also got pregnant while on the pill. Until January 2015, I always had the injection pill every 3 months. I stopped that in January 2015 and since then started on the combined pill. With the injection pill, it can sometimes take up to 2 years for your body to get back 'in order'. I probably went through that last March. My doctor thinks that when the hormones from the injection pill had completely left my body, my body was kind of confused because I was getting the hormones from the combined pill at the same time.

When I used the combined pill, I never got my period during the pill-free week, because the hormones from the injection pill hadn't left my body yet. I knew that was why and didn't find it strange at all.

Last April, I had a positive pregnancy test in my hands. All in all, I realized afterwards that the symptoms I had were actually normal for pregnancy, but because I hadn't expected it at all, I thought those symptoms were from the pill. The symptoms I felt were sore breasts, nausea, and pimples on my forehead.

Even though I really took the pill every day and followed the pill-free week properly, I still got pregnant. The combination of stopping the injection pill and starting the combined pill at the same time most likely caused this.

Other than that, I'm now 32 weeks pregnant and can't wait to hold my little one soon.

That's so nice that you're happy about it after all!
I understand you can't wait, it's such a little wonder
I don't have experience with other contraceptives than the pill, but I can imagine that a switch does mess with your body for a bit.

I also get more pimples on my forehead, but that could also be due to the time of the month..
Oh yeah, and I have very weird dreams, but that happens more often too.

I started a new pill pack yesterday and won't test until I really feel different.

I’d still test, I think. No idea what swallowing the pill could do to the baby... I wouldn’t want to take that risk.
