Lies, Liesbeth, or Ella

I find Liesbeth a bit old-fashioned. Lies and Ella are nice and fresh though. For example, I think Lize is even fresher (sorry, not your question ).

    I completely agree with Anoniem.

Maybe I can still convince my husband with POL and an explanation. Although I'm starting to appreciate Lies more and more myself.

I really like Ella. I find the other names a bit old-fashioned. Maybe Elle is an idea?

    Lies, super cool!

I think Lies is a nice name. Short and sweet. I don't like Liesbeth as much. I do like Ella, but I hear it a lot these days. I think Lies is original and nice.

Great, thanks for all the comments! My husband isn't convinced yet though. He doesn't think Liesbeth is old-fashioned or dated, but rather vintage. He loves vintage music, vintage furniture, and now also vintage names. Haha. The 60s/70s are coming back to life in our house. But it's also nice that he has his own opinion. We still have some time, so I invite everyone to vote/post more. It could use some more counterweight ????

    Vintage?! Funny!
Or maybe officially Liesbeth and nickname Lies?
Look, music and furniture are one thing, but giving your kid such a ... uh ... vintage name is also a bit sad. (just my opinion, right?! )

Pathetic? What on earth is pathetic about it? Everyone has their own preference for a certain type of name. That's why there are so many names.

Of course, there are many names and everyone has their own preference. But with a newborn these days, I just don't feel names like Geertruida, Klazien or Bertha really fit. They're way too old-fashioned. And I feel sorry for someone who gives their child such an outdated name.

Liesbeth doesn't fall into that old-fashioned category, but it's definitely not hip either. But maybe that'll change.
(and a little pitiful: I already said this is just my personal opinion ).

    Then Lies or Ella,
I really like the variant on Lies - Lisse.
What do you think about that?

    Hi Meike,
You’re asking quite the question. Lies, Liesbeth, or Ella are completely different types of names. I totally get your husband’s point about names ending in an 'a'. Those names are everywhere right now: Sara (that’s me!), Anna, Hannah, Lisa, Lena, Ella, and so on. Personally, I think it’s really cool if you choose a unique name. I find Liesbeth very beautiful for an adult woman, and with Lies as a baby and childhood name, it’s super nice. I’d combine them both, just in case your daughter has international ambitions later on. I’m called Sara myself, but sometimes I feel a bit jealous of my friend Hubertine. Such a more striking name. You just have to get used to it more. So if you go with Lies/Beth, keep in mind that you might not get a lot of warm or positive reactions. If you’re sensitive to that, you should go with Ella. That’s how it works with names. A unique name that everyone loves is almost impossible.

Thanks everyone for thinking along with me! I'm still not entirely sure. I think Lies has a bit more spice than Lise, Lisse, Liese, etc. I do like that old-Hollandish vibe. But I also think it's nice, especially for her, if she'll have a name that many people will appreciate when she's older.

Ella, I like this one the most out of the three.
Lies feels like crying, like something is missing.
    Liesbeth feels old-fashioned.
    But choose what you like!
I suddenly had Elise in my head as a way to honor Elisabeth.

As the owner of the name Liesbeth, would I choose Lies or Ella????
  15. madelene #16

I think Liesbeth is quite pretty.
    Elizabeth is even prettier.
Personally, I don't find Ella that appealing.
  16. madelene #17

Or I also think Elsbeth is nice.
There are also names that my husband doesn't like. He prefers more modern ones.

I'm going with Ella! It has such a beautiful sound and flows really nicely...
